Well, tonight’s the night! Big Brother’s Little Brother kicks off at 6pm on E4 with George Lamb and Emma Willis, and the launch show proper begins at 9pm on Channel 4.
Latest rumours suggest this series is actually going to be relatively short at 11-12 weeks, and the final two weeks of the run will be given over to an “ultimate champion” fortnight. Very exciting!
The Channel 4 site will have a preview of the new titles at 1pm today for one hour only, Inside Big Brother is promising to cap them if you miss it. And you can’t wait until Little Brother, presumably.
Seriously though, if Graham and Ivy get in I can’t promise I won’t punch someone.
Edit: Love the titles. Please be brilliant this year, Big Brother!
I think my squeal of surprise mixed with vague alarm over this story may have been audible up to 120 miles (193.1km) away, so if this causes the mass exodus of fish from British waters and the subsequent collapse of the North Sea fishing industry, KONNIE HUQ IS ENTIRELY TO BLAME: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment_and_arts/10275290.stm
OK, did not see THAT coming.
I’m lead to believe the Daily Mail are describing Charlie Brooker as a ‘foul mouthed college drop-out’ for their coverage of it.
Specifically, “a college dropout who has made his name as a foul-mouthed TV critic”. The Daily Wail’s spin is very much “She’s an angel, he’s scum, low-down dirty foul-mouthed SCUM, d’y’hear?!”. I’m guessing he’s not exactly a fan of them, either.
Yes, I can only assume their painting him as “Not good enough to lick her boots” is down to his connections with the BBC (The only program he does I can think of not on the BBC is You Have Been Watching), The Guardian and the fact that he keeps insisting on attacking tabloid tendencies such as those the Mail seem to like to use in Newswipe.
In France, more details have emerged about the reworking of Crésus TF1 are putting in Attention à la marche’s timeslot at the end of the month.
They’ve rebadged it ‘Les 12 coups du midi’ which catchily translates as ‘As the clock strikes midday…’ – main game sounds almost identical to how it was before – five players reduced to one, two wrong answers forces a ‘duel’ with a different name, and the winner plays the final round for €20,000 and a ‘mysterious star prize’.
Only change is that the winner gets to come back each day, in an obvious attempt to ape TLMVPSP.
I thought the returning champion thing was already in place (at least, according to Brig’s write-up). It sounds like the only thing that’s actually changed is the “and a mysterious star prize” bit.
You only got to return if you got a certain amount of questions right in the end game, if I recall correctly.
Also it’s sadly missing a wise-cracking CGI skeleton. But you never know.
They are bringing in another CGI character, voiced by the bloke who did the voices on Marche, apparently. But it’s not a skeleton.
And yes, you had to get 3 out of the 5 questions right to come back again on Crésus (a feat not that many people actually managed) – now it’s automatic rollover.
Loving the titles – completely agree with you re: Graham and Ivy.
Give Davina McCaw a spinoff series NOW.
Also the Chest of Drawers of Temptation.
This is a bit more ponderous than I was expecting, if we’re meant to be feeling the tension the potential housemates are meant to be feeling… well I’m not.
The house appears more cramped than usual, despite the transparent walls. Back to the old ways of messing with their minds through fung shuei?
It’s actually going to take a while to get my bearings with all the transparent walls.
THE MOLE IS BACK!
Call it wishful thinking, but I have to ask… The actual programme or a BB “twist”?
No it’s a BB twist – of the remaining hopefuls, one was picked at random by tombola. He has to go into the house and sabotage tasks and the like without attracting suspicion – if the majority of the house thinks its him, he gets kicked out immediately.
Unfortunately, he’s had to go in dressed as a mole, with a sign saying “I AM A MOLE” around his neck and will have to sleep in a “mole hole”. He will have a meeting with the Chest of Drawers of Temptation later this evening to get his first task.
Reasonable start, most of them seem likeable enough and I like the ‘carnival’ theme to the house this year. Not entirely convinced that having the housemates already meeting each other beforehand made for that great start though, as there wasn’t quite those shocked ‘first impression’ looks which can be fascinating, and I noticed some didn’t even bother to acknowledge at first that a new housemate had come in, which was a bit ‘off’! Although overall they all seemed to get on ok, although I’m sure the cracks will start to appear!
The twist is moderately interesting, I suppose his story of initially being oblivious to how he was dressed will just about wash with the majority, and we know BB contestants fail the majority of early tasks so he shouldn’t have any problem getting them to do that…!
Anyway, might have a look on the live feed in a bit (yes, I was sad enough to get a FREE one!).
Incidentally, if you hadn’t noticed, creative director Phil Edgar-Jones is posting on the Digital Spy Big Brother forums this year and is proving to be quite good value (look for ‘pej’)- interesting if you like a sort of director’s commentary on the show.
