I could have sworn Thomas commented on here about Floella Benjamin guest-hosting Countdown next week – did that comment get chewed up by the spam filter for whatever reason, or have I just not been looking hard enough for it?
Well, turns out Floella is one of four guest hosts booked for the ‘Down’s 40th anniversary celebrations: Richard Coles will be in the chair the following week, Sir Trev will make a welcome return the week after, and it’ll be Moira Stuart the week after that.
This will mean that Series 86 will have had no less than *eight* hosts – as many as the previous 85 series combined. (The Black to Front special was part of Series 84, whereas the 1997 Christmas special hosted by William G. Stewart was not part of a regular series.) And with Colin still not confirmed as the full-time host (unless I’m very much mistaken – copyright Murray Walker), could it happen after all that the ‘Down goes the same way as HIGNFY…?
Have to admit, at this point I’m actually not sure if guest hosts on a permanent basis would be a good or bad thing for the show – but as long as Rachel and Susie are there, I’d still watch.
I did. To be fair, it was quite difficult to find – the Bar’s search engine only searches posts and not comments and for some reason putting in site:bothersbar.co.uk floella seems to bring up no results, so I ended up searching for site:bothersbar.co.uk “thomas sales” countdown.
They all sound like good, fun choices. It’s perhaps surprising that Gyles isn’t involved. The lack of Carol is probably less of a surprise, but a shame all the same.
Colin Murray seems to have gone down well, such that he is already being kept on longer than originally planned – now until at least March. Much as I might prefer a new full-time presenter, I expect the arrangement of predominantly Colin with occasional cover will continue for as long as it suits them.
Yes, I can search comments behind the scenes but the search bar is a bit crap really unless I fork out for Jetpack, which I’m just not prepared to do.
It’s also why I didn’t do the traditional Ridd?culous joke in the title header, because it just makes the post harder to find in future.
