Did The Crystal Maze get enough votes then for outright victory or will they have to form a coalition with Only Connect – frankly two things that have about as much in common as the Lib Dems and Conservatives!
*scratches head* Well, this might flummox the mass media for coming years, but has to be a good thing. Thank you (pl.) as ever for running the whole shebang in the first place. How does turnout compare for this poll to that of previous quadrennia, if you can recall?
More than one person! Including one person (they can out themselves if they like) claiming that we’ll all be talking about him by the next poll, “seriously!”
I should point out, by the way, that the lottery show for the claimed period was actually Who Dares Wins, that one of the claimed format inventors came second in The X Factor that year, that Myleene Klass does in fact hold several recognised qualifications in music, and that the Guardian article claimed as a reference does not exist.
I have genuinely no idea who put it up, but can’t wait for a tabloid story about Ms Klass to see if its included.
Can’t help but thinking it was foolish to put the concept up on Wikipedia and not send it to a production company – I’m sure someone would have gone for it.
In terms of a *genuine* query – no Lisa Tarbuck? Both myself and Mr Weaver gave her some points.
Not much luck for the female hosts this time round, aside of course from VC and perhaps Rachel Riley.
Robbo’s the only other one besides Vicky in the top 30, and it’s no real surprise that she’s down 13 places, given the increasing staleness of Link.
No real surprise either that Davina’s down 25 given, in all fairness, how much her popularity has declined in the last four years – not helped by her continuous sticking up for BB. We’ll know soon enough whether or not The Million Pound Drop will arrest that decline.
And not all that surprising that Carol Vorderman has plummeted more than 31 places – even I can’t disagree that her ego was getting in the way by the time her departure from Countdown was announced, and of course she’s been relatively quiet since.
Davina at #38 is a still a joke though. If a male presented had hosted as many shows as her – with that much diversity in format – over such a time period; he’d be in the Top 10 easily.
I very idly wonder if there would be mileage in spin-off polls in off years – a quadrennial “Best Children’s Game Show”, a quadrennial “Best Game Show Theme Tune”, a quadrennial “Best Bonus Round” sort of thing.
It’s certainly possible to have poll overload; I’m glad that the all-time poll is only once every four years, which certainly doesn’t feel insufficiently frequent. (‘Tis a pity that the next General Election is set for 2015 not 2014 – the thematic tie-in worked for me, even if it was at a busy time of year for Brig.)
Come to think of it, this is pretty overtly an all-media game show poll given that TV, radio and web broadcasts are all placed. I wonder if I’ll have reason to vote for the A Question of Sport live tour next time, as another sort of medium through which the show we call game is conveyed?
Mmm… I suppose we’re voting for cross-media formats (or possibly brands) here and it would probably make more sense to vote for, say, Just A Minute at large than to vote separately for Nicholas Parsons’ radio shows and his TV shows, and credit for the AQoS tours would probably be subsumed into the AQoS vote at large. More practically, if Fighting Talk did theatre shows as well as the radio shows (which is rumoured) then you’d probably chalk enjoyment up from those to the radio show.
As a Yank, I did not feel I was at all qualified to participate in the latest poll. But I would like to comment on the result, which does not surprise me in the least!
I have been showing such episodes of “The Crystal Maze” that are on YouTube to a close friend, and he’s just as taken with the show as I have been. Now, he’s been touting it to his boss’s family, and they may take a gander on the Web to see what it’s about. His boss’s wife seems to have liked the description, and liked the idea of a game show that will get the kids involved and interested.
Sometime,. I would like the excuse to expound at length on how I feel about the series, what I would like to see in a revival, and even make some suggestions as to a host.
Oddly enough, people waxing lyrical about The Crystal Maze generally goes down quite well around these parts; you’d think we liked the show, or something. There may be a few newer readers here (hello) who might not be aware that David B designed some of the games and accordingly knows a great deal about the show.
Did The Crystal Maze get enough votes then for outright victory or will they have to form a coalition with Only Connect – frankly two things that have about as much in common as the Lib Dems and Conservatives!
Put it this way, The Crystal Maze got almost 150% of the votes The Mole got, and twice as many votes as Only Connect.

Turnout’s actually about the same as previous.
For those of us who haven’t been around that long, could you give a ballpark estimate?
More than 50, I’d prefer it to be more.
I would like to know who voted for Craig Stephens….
More than one person! Including one person (they can out themselves if they like) claiming that we’ll all be talking about him by the next poll, “seriously!”
Yeah ! The Crystal Maze win !
No ‘Top of the Klass’?
Yes, yes, very funny… seeing as how Wikipedia dumped their Bad Jokes And Other Deleted Nonsense pages some time ago, I’ve saved this to my hard drive…

Liza Tarbuck was 63rd.
Someone’s added a title card for “Top of the Klass with Myleene Klass” now, supposedly “Image copyright BBC/Endemol”!

YOU SHOULD HAVE VOTED.
Hopefully next year Quiz Call can make it into the Top 20. It was a classic.
Eh…. no….
but I would back Quizmania for the top 20 though.

Maybe we could have some more impromptu polls each summer; that way a poll every 6 months won’t be much hardship.
I certainly think there’s room for there being a radio category, because they’ll always come off second best to TV but deserve to be recognised.
Mmm, I made a point to big up radio shows especially for that reason.
Although I don’t think for the life of me I’ve ever listened to ten radio quizzes, let alone be able to give them any sort of rank.
