Hosts That Get Rather Friendly With The Contestants

Sure, why not.

Can I request a new post on the Bar?!

A random thought popped into my head with the news that Tipping Point is resuming in a socially distanced manner

‘Hosts that get rather friendly with contestants’

Bens hugs on Tipping Point and Les ‘put your arm around me’ Dennis are the starters for 10

John R, in a comment

The correct answer is Richard Dawson on Family Feud.

BRIAN BLESSED, sort of, for a peculiarly masculine sort of friendliness, as someone here will tell you…

Chris Tarrant could sometimes get a bit like this on Millionaire, uncomfortably so with female contestants. I get that he was excited that they won a lot of money, but it went a bit over the top.

Buzzerblog is reporting Dwyane Wade, recently retired big name NBA basketball player, is hosting The Cube USA.

Interesting choice – I only know him as an athlete so no idea how good he will be as a host but he’s certainly a big departure from Schofield or Neil Patrick Harris. Makes me wonder if they plan to play up the physicality/sports angle.

Any pitches for British athletes to host gameshows?

Conversely, I would have loved in Mo Farah was hosting the UK reboot

First LeBron James and The Wall, then Stephen Curry and Holey Moley, now Dwyane Wade… have to wonder which basketball player will get into the Executive Producer gig next…

I really think they will struggle with the temperature change. I can’t imagine clebs who are in British November temperatures outside getting rained on will be up to much talking. Then again, if they are based in the castle, it’s basically Big Brother.

I hope they play with the fact that they’ve got a castle setting with some medieval or horror-themed challenges, it will feel very out of place if they keep going with the insects.

There’s no way they don’t do insects, but I think in the short term this might be a boon in terms of potential ideas.

I think them not talking too much shouldn’t be a big concern – compared to BB they actually concentrate on very little of what goes on in camp with so much time taken up with Ant & Dec’s sketches, Bushtucker Trial, Dingo Dollar challenge / any other random crap they ask them to do, there is about 5 minutes left for camp chat if that. It’ll be fine

Returning to the topic of this post, I’m slightly surprised no-one’s mentioned Davina yet.

I recall her telling OK! magazine back in 2001 that she wasn’t embarrassed about giving people a cuddle if they were nervous about going in front of the cameras. Wouldn’t be at all surprised if that’s still the case nearly twenty(!) years later.
