Unoriginal Name
The CW is bringing over the UK version of Taskmaster for its summer schedule in the USA. Will start on Sunday, August 2nd.
I’ll note The CW has done this in the summer before: a few years back, it was the ITV show Penn & Teller Fool Us, which did well enough it continued stateside.
A US version of Taskmaster has already been done for Comedy Central, I don’t know if they’ve ever show UK Taskmaster. As far as I can tell the US version has been cancelled so if this goes well it could lead to a longer run, Fool Us is still going after 7 series and it’s still good.
It didn’t occur to me that this could be a trial run for a new US version but it would make some sense – I can’t imagine it’s that expensive to make, it’s a decent fit with Whose Line and it’s the rare reality which might have some appeal on SVOD
Very much enjoyed this. In fact, very much enjoyed this twice, as last night I was watching the clip and the chat with the sound off, and I’ve had the sound in on the background today. Thanks for running the poll, Ben, and sorry that you had some poopy behaviour to deal with.
You can see how bad my predictions for the second semi were in the YouTube chat, though when I was surprised they were mostly pleasant surprises. (I also like being surprised like that; for instance, I love seeing the Mole be revealed as someone who I wasn’t close to guessing.) Ben’s probably in a better position to judge based on the order in which the shows finished and which shows were the nearest misses, but it feels a little like the two semis had different bases voting, a different proportion of fandom-y fans (noting that there are many different little game show fandoms which cross over). This is of course perfectly fine, totally out of Ben’s control and very probably a natural consequence of the different windows permitted for voting, what with the revote.
Looking forward to the final, and to finding out whether/how the voting base is different to when the base isn’t essentially the Bar and ukgameshows.com.
For entertainment only, and bearing in mind that I haven’t seen the scores from any of the rounds to date, here’s how I would set the opening prices for the final:
The Crystal Maze 2-1
Only Connect 4-1
The Chase 7-1
WWTBAM? 8-1
The Krypton Factor 9-1
Pointless 10-1
Catchphrase 11-1
Taskmaster, The Cube 12-1
The Mole, Countdown 20-1
Blockbusters, Duel 25-1
Richard Osman’s House of Games, Robot Wars, Gladiators 33-1
University Challenge, !mpossible, Bullseye, 15-to-1 50-1
153% book there, marvellous, but I’m prepared to believe those odds leave some value on the table – probably at the top end, but my judgement on these matters is notably poor.

Tolerably respectable. I definitely did leave value available, though. (I do regret not quoting 15-to-1 at 15-1.)
