Board of Excitement 16th-22nd May 2010

By | May 16, 2010
  • The Bother Series of Poker Game 8 (8pm UK/1500ET, Sunday, Full Tilt) BIG MONEY! Discussion page is here.
  • Survivor (Sunday, CBS) – it’s the grand final! It feels as though it’s come around quite quickly this year. Russell’s a brilliant player, but I would laugh if somebody else wins – Pavarti or Sandra would be my choice.
  • Frank Skinner on Absolute Radio Podcast (The Internet, Sunday-Wednesday I think) – This is normally worth a listen anyway, but this week’s is especially interesting because Tim Vine is the special guest, and if that wasn’t enough on its own, he has a chat about his appearance on Celebrity Mastermind.
  • Run For Money (Tuesday, Fuji TV) – I’m hoping for a task, failure of which releases AT LEAST 200 HUNT-AHS this time around. Fingers crossed someone uploads it to Youtube, albeit for a short time.
  • The Gameshow General Election Results – sometime this week. Hopefully.

On Run For money there has been a mission that would have realesed 100 Hunters with no escape from any of the contestants (Stopping a train)

One Other mission i found to be an Enjoyment was the Resetting the money by failing a mission.

    Last Night

Total Wipeout: The Final: 3.5m (24.0%)
    The Phantom’s Over The Rainbow: 5.2m (26%)
    The Whole 9 Yards + 10: 4.2m (21.7%)
    Britain’s Got Talent: 9.6m (42.8%)
In It to Win It 2012: 4.2m (18.6%)

Ratings Bear applauds The Hamster and will no doubt get a fourth series comissioned. Vernon Kay continues to be stable but cannot hit the magic 5 million mark Take Me Out achieved earlier this year. The Phantom builds his audience to find Dot, but what’s this… Prime Minister Simon Cowell has lost viewers and dipped below ten million, while The Winton continues to keep a stable audience. Could The Winton be a serious challenger to the newly elected Prime Minister of ratings???

Ratings Bear would like to inform you he will be tucking into some Iron BEEF for sunday lunch today with a glass of fully fresh and squeezed Olly Smith wine.

Come Dine With Me repeats will take over from tomorrow.

Was that planned, or did the constant shouting, weird facial expressions of Ollie, and Nick Narin looking both embarrased and bemused zero the Rajars between 5 – 6 on Channel 4?

So it’s been pulled mid-series? Ooh, nasty. Not as spectacularly bad as the first Iron Chef USA, thankfully.

Sorry. There was a time in my life around 6 years ago where the only figures I cared about were Rajars.
The show that I worked on couldn’t get cancelled because of bad BARB figures ;0)

          Old, old habits die hard.

(Rajars trip of the tongue better than Barbs, though..)

BBUS starts Thursday, July 8th, per a commercial during the Survivor finale. Not confirmed, but it’s probably it’s normal Tue/Thur/Sun format, with Thursday evictions.

Why is nobody talking about Mission: 2110? It really is (or, at least, appears to be based on watching about a show and a half, so you know my heart is ruling my head when I’m talking here) only the new Scavengers. On a technical analysis, it’s probably a better show, even if I’m nearly-35 rather than 20-ish and so it hasn’t caught my imagination to quite the same extent, and it’s perhaps not quite so spectacular. On balance: so far, so brilliant.

…though only having about a dozen games is more than a bit naff, especially when some of them bear similarities. Ah well, we shall see if things pick back up for the Final Four. (And it’s not as if Gladiators series one had more than six.)

I’ve only seen the first 3 eps, so I can’t judge- but one of the games wouldn’t have been out of place on Gladiators (the one where the players have to run back and forth getting biorods with a Roboid in the way- sort of a combo of Hit and Run and Supension Bridge)

Because given the premise, it’s a bit difficult not to feel slightly dissapointed by it?

I agree brig. I was quite let down as they have clearly pumped a lot of money into the show. The problem for me the format and the games. Also for some reason the final game is nowhere near as dramatic as the same game (all be it slightly different grid) that Incredible Games had.

If the BBC want another stand out action adventure show for CBBC then they could do no worse than using Fort Boyard i think. Yes not all the games would work for kids but i think a good percentage could. Set a team off and give then a few games each day even have them “live” on the Fort during their week.

It is tried and tested and already has a lot in place.

Why is no-one talking about Mission 2110? Been there, done that, bought the biorod.

Chris is right that there are similarities to Scavengers, not least the spirit guide who knows a lot, but doesn’t help at all.

Brig has a point that there are holes in the structure, and a lot of things that aren’t quite right. But the show’s heart is in the right place, it’s got a lot more right than wrong, there’s a whole lot more humour and levity than in certain other shows we could mention.

We shall see if things do pick up for the final four. A whole one episode, on the bank holiday Monday. Still, there’s some vintage Only Connect each weeknight from then…
