Happy Saturday.
What is the Bothers’ Bar consensus: is The Whole 19 Yards any good? And out of 10 what would you give it?
It’s something I happily watch, but it’s not something I make an effort to purposely watch. So what’s that? A 6?
Having only seen two episodes on YouTube, I’d say somewhere between 6 and 7. It’d probably get tiresome in the longrun, but it’s got its share of funny moments. I’ll probably make an effort to see the other episodes if ever they’re posted, so maybe I’ll bump it up to a confident 7.
Episode 1 and 2: 7/10.
After: 5-6/10.
Good, but for God’s sake come up with some new bloody games.
I’d give episode one an 8, but when it became apparent that (a) only one game had a ‘twist’ in it, and (b) the games repeated quite a lot, it’s dropped down to a 6 for me, despite the excellent presentation.
I always said at the start that the amount it holds my attention is largely dependent on how many different games it has, and as I suspected they don’t really have enough. But saying that, I’m still quite enjoying it, if mainly because I think Vernon Kay’s a brilliant match for it, and Glenn Hugill’s a funny commentator. Caroline Flack is likable but underused. I don’t think the endgame is really all that.
I still V+ it, but I didn’t watch last week’s until this afternoon. I’m going to watch the second half of tonight’s in a minute.
I reckoned a 7 when it first started, I’ve got no real reason to revise that down, but I certainly can’t revise it up I don’t think.
I’ve been away from watching it for two weeks, so I still think it’s hovering around 6.5-7 out of ten. It’ll probably get a recommission, and I suspect Endemol may make the show pay by doing a Wipeout and making overseas versions at Pinewood.
However, the only change I noticed last night from the last time I saw it, is that for some reason Glenn appeared to have abandoned the commentary style of a comedy version of himself, and is now doing a poor Alan Partridge impression. Naaa.
Surely Come and have a go if you think you’re smart enough beats it by 40 letters to 29? Count again taking apostrophe and spaces into consideration if you care to, and there might be an ellipsis after “come and have a go” by some logic.
Yes I did forget about Come and Have A Go If You Think You’re Smart Enough (and also thanks to Art Begotti on Twitter for pointing it out as well).
But really, who can blame me?
It’s a shame that this is the only post that has a tag of “the longest quiz title in the world”.
