Hot on the heels of first series Turnabout turning up, we were alerted to ten minutes of first series Four Square, with Michael Groth off of That’s Life hosting.
I think you’d struggle to define it as a future classic from this clip to be honest (which doesn’t get as far as The Maze unfortunately, which was everyone’s favourite round surely), the game is rather ponderous – each square has *two* questions associated with it and it only goes the opponent’s colour if the second one is answered incorrectly.
I’ve been trying to remember what Four Square was called. Kevin Ashman was a contestant on one episode.
I like how Michael acts as if this is his Saturday night breakthrough.
Although I’m disappointed John Sachs didn’t adopt “there’s a square that’s almost there!” as a catchphrase.

It’s not new. As long as WWTBAM has existed in the USA, primetime celebrity episodes have had that guarantee and that disclaimer. I can’t speak for the daytime syndicated version, which did have an occasional celebrity special.
When Regis Philbin used to be the host, this was accomplished by having the other celebrities in the Fastest Finger circle give as many hints as it took for the celebrity in the hot seat to figure the question out until reaching $32,000. IIRC, there was at least one instance where a celebrity ignored said hints and bombed out before the $32,000 question; I can only assume the charity received $32,000 anyway.
I remember seeing a clip where celebrity was struggling so much and had no lifelines left so they gave him a question about a film he was in.
Since you’re talking about Millionaire …
TF1 has elected to bring back the show in this hard times (and also since they’ve been crushed by Nagui and N’oubliez pas les Paroles for a few weeks already after they had to stop broadcasting their daily soap in the timeslot)… and it will be a webcam-powered show as host Camille Combal and celebrities will be playing from their homes ! They are working on how to adjust some details (obiously there’s quite an open door about cheating this way) and something to remplace the Audience lifeline (likely some kind of Ask The Nation). More details soon as it seems to be quite an emergency choice but could be quite intereting to watch, at least on the technical side
On the subject of Millionaire again, UK celebrity special filmed in the last block to be shown tommorow night at 7, still no word on the civilian episodes filmed in the same block.
I was shown this and all I can think is it looks like Knightmare.
