Possibly of interest (we have mentioned them before), Jelle’s Marble Runs, a Youtube channel that specialises in lengthy marble courses to entertain and amuse, have followed up their Marble Olympics series with the inaugural Marbula 1 race this weekend just gone. I love the opening ceremony and the high drama the race provides.
But WOAH-WOAH-WOAH, what’s this that’s come up in my Youtube recommendations? From a fortnight ago?
I report, you decide.
Channel controllers! The rights to incredible hit physics/quiz format The Road to Sortition (the show that likes drawing lots – lots and lots!) are still up for grabs! Call me!
Edit: Our marble racing correspondent Tantusar (which I keep wanting to write as “Tantasaur”) has this to say:
Non-story. Marbula 1 has been in concept since at least October and certainly earlier.

…Not that the format is really anything special. Adding a conveyor belt is a logical progression to the very prevalent “get to the bottom” format.
Ah, there we go, there’s the first post: https://www.reddit.com/r/JellesMarbleRuns/comments/dbz0z8/first_details_about_marbula_one/
Thanks Tantusar! I had no idea of the ins and outs – I was planning a Marbula 1 post after watching the race last night, then the other one popped up on my timeline so seemed like a fun story.
That’s not the way around I think it’s happened. Yes, JMR has trailed M1 for a while now. So, what if the Australians have got wind of this and beaten them to it?
I can’t take this marble drama.
I’m glad to see we’re all total nerds here who follow a marble racing channel. Sadly my marblympic favourites didn’t make it to the team list 🙁
GO O’RANGERS!
That is all.
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
O’Rangers are the greatest team in the history of sports.
The Savage Speeders are the most evil.
Balls of Chaos 4life
And now I want a Mean Marble team featuring Duck Dastardly and Mutt-alley.
“Marble Bastards, coming this Fall to NBC!”
Crossing the streams with a previous thread, when I was young, I also had an idea for a rubbish version of this as well. The key difference was that I wasn’t looking to declare a winner by which marble was the fastest (which was something that I wasn’t in a position to at all reliably measure) but which marble, of several released in the same way at the same time, rolled the furthest. In truth, the race wasn’t the real attraction here; the scorekeeping was the attraction. The artistry in Jelle’s work is the design and the presentation; my favourite video there – probably the most relaxing and least competitive – is the Marble Amusement Park.
If you like watching this sort of randomness, you might enjoy this video of a friendly and amusing (though somewhat sweary) lad playing a new Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? online slot machine. As he comments, the base game is really pretty dull, but ever so occasionally you trigger the main feature which is exciting and occasionally generous. More to the point, it features a very good WWTBAM? tune in the background which I think, but can’t remember for sure, might have been the single. (The lad sort of doesn’t like money so he spends a lot of time trying to gamble his wins repeatedly at 31-1 odds.) I recommend the first couple of minutes of the video, then when you get bored, skip through to 10′, 33′, 41′ , 47′ and 50′ for the better bits.
Play responsibly, or – better still – just don’t play at all and listen to the single instead.
The background music is not the 2000 single, I’ve heard that enough times to what that sounds like. Custom made for this game by the looks of it, by smashing together other bits of Millionaire music.
Thank you! …and how inconvenient.
Incredible Safety Marble drama in race 2.
