We’ve been alerted to the fact that tonight’s ITV Election debate’s set looks rather like the Cash Trapped one. But I’ve also seen it compared to that of High Stakes with Jeremy Kyle. I quite liked the set. I thought Kyle was quite good. I don’t remember liking much else (you can read our comments at the time here).
I did always like the dramatic intro to this show
On High Stakes there is only ONE MAN who can help you!
DRAMATIC CUT TO JEREMY KYLE
…But will I be of any help?!
Was this actually the first show where the host could help out? (Not that he really ever did)
I bought this up in the original post years ago, such was the ferocity they were selling it on:
“Ignore the idea that it’s the first show where the host can help contestants, it isn’t (see Treasure Hunt, Nick Weir’s Catchphrase passim)…”
I think the reason they emphasised it so much is because it’s unusual to see Jeremy Kyle being nice like this, the obvious thing for him to do hosting a quiz show would be an Anne Robinson-style persona.
Wow, I actually said I enjoyed the show based on catching the last ten minutes of an episode I saw. God, that’s embarrassing.
I never understood why you’d make the questions on a quiz show some kind of ‘optional extra’… And the whole floor thing was unnecessary. Even now I find it strangely unwatchable.

If you’re a bit tired of a host holding a question card, how about holding a question scroll?
