There’s no gameshow category. I can only assume there was some deep soul-searching after coming up with a different conclusion to the one I came up with, on a five-year winning streak, that the Rose d’Or organization couldn’t risk being wrong two years running and have opted to shelve the category.
What we do have is “Studio Entertainment” where you’ll find Michael McIntyre’s Big Show, The Last Leg, Songland, Let’s Keep It Between Us, Dance Revolution and the famously studio bound Holey Moley.
In “Reality and Factual Entertainment” we have 63 Up, Blackout, Employable Me, Our Dementia Choir with Vicky McClure, The Repair Shop, and Stephen Lambert redefining the reality gameshow genre with The Circle.

So for all the comic tradition over in the US, as well as all the improv skills, generally panel games of the HIGNFY mould have famously never worked very well across the pond. Hard to put a finger on why – it just never seems to suit their style of humor. I think ALoTO has a better chance than most as the emphasis is more on general shenanigans than ultra-witty repartee, and the generally huge audience for ‘sports’ might be willing to give it a go.
I wouldn’t be shocked to see a show like HIGNFY or the Australian series Have You Been Paying Attention? turn up on one of the numerous network-affiliated streaming services; it’s cheap to produce (so it’s good original content for them), and isn’t really bingable (since they rely on current events)…I know Netflix has tried a couple of them, but they didn’t really work since they weren’t topical and it was put out all at once…
As for ALoTO- I think CBS is the wrong network for it….Comedy Central here is probably a better fit, but the casting would make it too expensive for a network like that, plus I have no idea where CBS could schedule it where it’d make sense (only place that I think would be OK is the Survivor timeslot in the few weeks between their seasone to blunt The Masked Singer’s first few weeks when they come back…. and the Survivor season in the Spring is a big one for them, as it’s the 40th season with an All-Winners twist)
Disney+ is going into the gameshow market it seems with a show called the big fib.

Two grown ups say they are the expert on a topic, one of them is lying and its up to the kids to figure out who.

Your WTF news of the day : a French adaptation of Love Island has been announced today .. on Prime Video. That’s a weird move. (seems some kind of hastily counter-programming vs Netflix’s The Circle, also locally adapted)
Amazon has also announced an adventure-gameshow again for the French version of Prime Video called “The Missing One” where four teams of celebrities will be competiting in Australia to find back the fourth missing member of their team, hidden in a secret place in order to win big money for their charity (up to €200,000 on the line according to the pitch). Quite big names announced , former France 98 football players (Desailly, Petit, Pirès), NBA players (Parker, Diaw) and other top names. Quite intrigued about this one, could be huge.
I think part of that is because Netflix/AP has a disadvantage because of French laws about movie access (they can’t put movies on their services until 3 years after they first show in cinemas there, after the commercial networks get their turn, etc.- Netflix in particular is irked about it because they want to show some of their films at Cannes but they don’t mainly because of this), so they have to do original TV shows like this…
A bit of an oddity in the More4 schedules on Tuesday at 9pm – Celebrity Countdown. Basically 8 out of 10 Cats Don’t Do Countdown, with Nick Hewer hosting and Jo Brand and Jay Rayner playing.
Quick turnaround for those, they only filmed on 20/21 October! (Sadly I didn’t attend so don’t know who the celebs are)
Next Sunday…
To mark the start of a new series of I’m a Celebrity – Get Me Out of Here, Bradley Walsh presents as 2018 campmates Rita Simons, Malique Thompson-Dwyer, Fleur East and James McVey try to win as much money as they dare before teaming up in the final round against one of the show’s five quiz experts. But which Chaser will the campmates be facing tonight?
I simply CANNOT PREDICT which chaser they will be facing!1!1!1
Quite off-topic but may be of interest: a few weeks back, it was noticed that all the subtitled episodes of Belgian Mole had disappeared off Dailymotion and wasn’t sure if all the seasons were safe. Well now I can confirm that season 6 from 2018 is still on Mega, as is this year’s series which is also on Google Drive. No idea where series 4 and 5 are.
Don’t know if been mentioned yet but season 2 of Korean mystery show “Busted” has appeared on Netflix. I really enjoyed season one and if the first episode is anything to go by, this season will be just as good
Excellent thanks, I need to finish S1 ideally.
I thought “Somehow I wasn’t a big fan of the first few episodes of season 1, I’ll just start with season 2” and apparently it spoilt the entire first season ending for me. It pretty much picks up where they left off, so now I know the twists of the very end of season one. However I liked the first season 2 episode, so that’s not that bad.
