MIA: Cash Trapped

By | July 22, 2019

There was no series last year because Bradley was filming Doctor Who, they’ve since filmed two series. The question is: where are they?

As the only show that’s proved competitive in the The Chase replacement spot since Tipping Point, its absence feels a bit strange. It sounds like The Chase is staying in repeats over the Summer, which is logical.

Are they going to replace Tipping Point with it at some point, and have Bradley leading into Bradley? Parachute into the current 9:25am slot where nothing seems to be working? Seems like a waste. Where next for Britain’s Favourite Strategic Quiz?

I was going to ask this recently, but I assumed there was an obvious answer I was missing or something. I think the problem is it’s been far too long since the last episode, and I think Cash Trapped would work much better if it got a decent run because it needs to build up a following and it can’t do that in short bursts of a couple of weeks. They’ve also got The Switch to show at some point, and I’d assumed that was this summer’s Chase replacement. Will Cash Trapped finally get the attention it deserves, or will it join the last 12 episodes of Shafted in the vault of never-shown game shows?

The suggestion is that they will go out consecutively next year. I hope the questions don’t go out of date!

So now we know that there are 160 counters in the machine at the start of the game…

I always really pictures of sets with the house lights up like picture number 11, probably because of the way it shows the seemingly infinite black expanse to actually be some black drapes a few meters away.

This sort of answers a question I’ve had since the first episode, that I was coincidentally thinking about yesterday. In a real Penny Falls machine, I assume (correct me if I’m wrong) that the reason the coins drop in a bit of a different direction each time is because you put it in the top yourself at a slightly different angle, and I’d wondered how a machine-controlled drop could lead to the same effect. I’d considered that the way it drops could be controlled by a human who gives a contestant bad drops if they’re doing a bit too well, but that probably wouldn’t be considered fair.

Currently in Spain, where Antena 3 have made an interesting change to Ahora Cairo this summer – they’ll typically show repeats through July and August but have decided this year to broadcast new episodes with a fill-in host, Silvia Abril, before Arturo Valls returns in the autumn.

Not sure it does much for the brand – when Valls *is* Ahora Caigo – but an intriguing development nonetheless.

Interesting, thanks… although I do reckon a summer switch to ‘Ahora Cairo’ should come with a top prize of a holiday to Egypt!

Still Cairo: a post-apocalyptic game show in the style of the Quiz Broadcast about whether the Egyptian city is still around (or Still Standing. Actually the original title would work for this joke anyway.)

An advert for the new series aired during ‘Tenable’ today, and appeared to confirm that cash prizes for toss-up questions are back (£100,£200 etc). Was this the case during the recording of your episodes?
