Tonight at 7:15 UK/8:15 German time on ProSieben (and hopefully naughty streaming) it’s Schlag den Raab, where a member of the public attempts to defeat Stefan Raab over a series of fifteen games live for €500,000.
Tonight look forward to no mountain biking, and probably a competitive version of that game with a ball on a bit of string attached to a cup, or something.
In other news, Michael Barrymore, Pat Sharp, Jenny Powell and Anthea Redfern are doing a special gameshow host’s edition of Come Dine With Me, set to be shown later in the month. Amazing.
I’m going to have a new feature for you tomorrow.
I have a favour to ask from Gary Male – his internet has stopped working and could be another 10 days or so until it works. A fat pigeon probably sat on the phone line and broke it.
Anyway, he’s a Schlag Den Raab fan, and wonders if someone can save it to a DVD and post it to him?
I’m looking forward to a hopefully major-injury-less SdR tonight. Very minor injuries are perfectly acceptable, of course.
Recording it now. It will be across two DVDs though as given it’s a live show it could last more than four hours.
You’re in luck, as I got the normal access I am recording it as we speak. It will be across two DVDs though as given it’s a live show it could last more than four hours.
Thanks Guys – I’ll let Gary know.
I’ll send a Facebook message tomorrow as I have also got something else you might like to see.
Your naughty internet streaming…

Just turned on to TW19Y and saw a guy fail the endgame at the very start.
He should have waited for Vernon to read out another clue or two.
Indeed – epic fail.
I was thinking “skunk” at that point. (The animal, not the contestant!)
My parents also said Zebra, funny that.
Game 1 is Bilboquet. That cup-and-ball game.
They take turns trying to swing the ball into the cup. First one in wins.
And Thorsten does it! 1-0.
Game 2 is Wer ist Das? “Who’s that?”
Christ, that was meant to be a joke!
I’m confident there are now internet spies working for 12Yard, BBC and Pro7.
Stefan wins Game 2, 7-3.
In It to Win It 2012 is underway.
First sign of the Olympic theme – the balls in the draw for a place in Winner’s Row are in the colours of the Olympic rings, as are the corresponding contestants’ name tags.
…And the only other sign is that Olympic and Paralympic themed questions pop up from time to time.
And Would. You. Believe. It. Just six days after Iain Weaver talks about IITWI and other shows that aren’t both fair and just, Lucy gets into Winner’s Row a matter of seconds before the klaxon sounds, guesses her first and only question correctly, and ends up pocketing the entire £60k prize fund – £45k of which was provided by Stevie.
Also the Dream Number draw has been moved to the second Lottery plug, immediately before the main Lotto draw, and only MisterAl can tell us what the odds are of the five main numbers in the Thunderball draw being 5, 6, 7, 8 and 10.
Drat, guess it’s not a good idea to use triangular brackets for enclosing HTML-style SPOILER tags.
Well, statistically speaking the odds of 5,6,7,8 & 10 being drawn out are excatly the same as say 1, 12, 17, 24, 32 being drawn. It’s a random lottery draw, people.
It’s funny. Those that don’t play the lottery at work are always banging on about numbers never been drawn in a sequence and how it must be manipulated for that to happen – and then when they do fall in close squence, they cry foul that it must be a fix!
Anyway, back to the thread title. 2 German men chucking tennis balls, whilst the local lowlife in that dodgy looking tower block you can see on the long high-up shots occastionally start to shout loudly and heckle – this is what Logie Baird must had in mind when he legged it down to the patient office in 1922….!
Me and my big mouth.
Four consecutive numbers, and the fifth just one out from making this five, is still super rare, though.
In It to Win It 2012.
Des Elmes has filled you in with the differences to the show. I must admit there weren’t many Olympic theme questions though, less than what I thought there would be.
As mentioned earlier in the week, I have been following the show since 2002 and can confirm tonight is the first time somebody has scooped the entire prize fund by answering a single question. There was the Irish guy in 2004 winning £50,000 on his own but he had three questions (£5K, red area and final question).
LOL at Digital Spy saying the show isn’t fair.
Game 3: “Speedcourt”. The players have to run around the court tagging the 10 blue squares on the floor when the corresponding squares on the screen turn yellow. Stefan finishes the course in 2:43.76, but Thorsten beats his time and retakes the lead in the match, 4-2.
Game 4 is “Trinken”, a drinking game. The idea is to drink 500 mL of water from a 1,000-mL cylinder hidden below them. Neither player was particularly close, but since Stefan drank more, he wins and takes a 6-4 lead.
Game 5 is Badminton.
Thorsten wins Badminton 15-7, and takes back the lead, 9-6 in the match. This is shaping up to be a ding-dong battle.
Game 6 is Marienkaefer, or Ladybugs.
They have to count all the spots on the ladybugs on the screen.
Stefan wins this one 6-5, and takes the lead 12-9. Game 7 is “Cross-Kart”, a go-kart race.
Stefan’s best lap was 24.67 seconds. Can Thorsten better that?
NO! 24.85! So close! Stefan extends his lead to 19-9.
Game 8 is “Werfen and Fangen”–throw and catch. They have to throw a tennis ball into the air, run after it, then catch it before it hits the ground. Each player has 8 attempts. The player who can throw and catch it farthest will win.
Thorsten’s best distance: 9.8m.
Stefan’s best distance: 10.80m
Stefan’s starting to pull away from Thorsten here: 27-9.
At this point we’re guaranteed up to and including game 12. All Thorsten has to do is win a couple of games though and he’s back in the game.
Game 9: “Wer weiss mehr?” Thorsten and Stefan will go back and forth giving answers to list questions. If a player gives a wrong answer or takes longer than 30 seconds, he loses the question.
Hmm. Ok, now it’s not looking good.
1. 2010 World Cup countries (Stefan wins)
2. Animals in the Chinese zodiac (Stefan)
3. Germany’s favorite makes of car (Stefan)
4. Nouns in Goethe’s poem “Der Erlkoenig” (Thorsten)
5. Formula 1 Champions since 1970 (Stefan)
6. EU Currencies (Stefan)
Stefan wins it, making the match 36-9.
Raab certainly doesn’t get crap to do his musical interludes. They got Muse performing at the Autoball tournament in June. Looks like Ross Anthony will be representing England.
I’m assuming there’s a reason why Raab is wearing headgear for Game 10 – still suffering after his crash in the last SdR?
Game 10: Elfmeterschiessen. Alternate penalty shots, best of five. Whoever scores the most goals wins–it’s as simple as that. If there’s a tie after five shots, we’ll go for sudden death until we have a winner.
Thorsten takes it 3-0! The start of a rally?
36-19 is the score now.
That forces at least a Game 13 (11 and 12 would only give Stephan 59)
Game 11 is “Baukloetze”–Building Blocks. The players have 6 minutes to build as tall a tower as they can.
Thorsten takes this one too! The rally is on! It’s 36-30.
Stephan needs any two of the last four games to win- Thorsten needs three.
Thanks chaps, just got in.
Game 12 is “Wo Liegt Was?” — Where’s What? Players are asked geography questions, and answer by pointing to the answer on a map. Whoever is closer on four out of 7 occasions will win.
Thorsten knows what’s where–he takes the lead, 42-36!
I was going to put money on Germany winning Eurovision 2010 on the basis of watching the video of the ‘cute’ Lena on YouTube – however, seeing as she has tone and pitch issues singing live, I may keep my money in my pocket.
Hey, electronic pin on map sticking – Another game ‘as seen on Beat The Star’.
Serious point here – but do these games go on for far longer than they actually need to be?
They seem to be first to 7 when first to 4 or 5 would do – or in the case of the building block challenge 6 mins to build the tower, plus another minute to let it stand – what’s wrong with stack like crazy for 3 mins and highest tower wins?
Add in ProSieben’s long breaks plus the music acts and protracted teeth sucking, and thinking aloud during the mental games, it really does start to drag along around the 2 hour mark..
I liked the Schlag den Star (Beat the Star) mini series they had in 2009. Stefan hosted, lasted for 2 hours and had 9 games. Shame they not adapting any more for 2010.
In fairness, Wo Liegt Es? is a bit of a Raab staple, they’ve been playing it for years, although tonight’s was the first one I’ve seen where it’s played on a map of the world and not Germany.
As for your other point, I do know what you mean and suspect it’s a cultural thing. I suppose with so much money at stake they feel there is a need to show some sort of mastery of each game rather than a quick sprint. Still, I doubt there are any other shows that can command an audience of millions post midnight.
Game 13 is Frisbee. Players take turns throwing four frisbees at their choice of 3 hoops–a large hoop for one point, a medium sized one for 2, or a small one for 3. Whoever has the higher score after five innings wins the game.
Five frisbees per turn, rather.
Thorsten loses big. Stefan leads 49-42, and it’s a Matchball situation.
Game 14 is “Blamieren oder Kassieren”.
Stefan wins 7-5 and sends Thorsten home, 63-42.
Tremendous, thanks Marc.
Yes, definite thanks for the whole recap. I was at a friend’s house (who was excited to watch this for the first time), but the Internet kept petering in and out, so all we could really see was Speedcourt and Trinken.
Does anyone know when the next show is? August somethingth?
18th September, according to Wikipedia.
And that’s the date that is now on the Schlag Den Raab website..
That’s a long gap isn’t it? I thought I’d read there’s normally between 6-8 per year, with one turning up approx every 2 months.
I know last year Schlag Den Star filled the void, but apart from Autoball 2010 on the 4th July this year, nothing.
There’s normally a Summer break, I think.
Going back to last night’s Thunderball result, what I thought was the most interesting was that the main numbers (5, 6, 7, 8 and 10) could also form a legimate board in Poker! – now the odds of that must be pretty low, since only numbers 2-10 could do that! Not only that, but I think the last number actually was 10, so in Poker analogy, there was an ‘open-ended straight draw going into the river’!
EDIT: Oh, it’s only 1 in 2208, so we’d expect to see the ‘Poker Board’ result about once in 22 years (maybe 30 as it didn’t go twice weekly for some years), so fairly rare but not ‘ridiculously’ so. Less chance of it next week of course with 297,501 combinations added to the mix…
