Hello Gang, just a message/warning that during the Easter University term (now through to the middle of June) I’m working very long hours so I probably won’t have an awful lot of time to think about stuff to post (for smaller items/”fun” follow me on Twitter) – I’ll almost certainly be relaxing the “at least one post every three days” rule.
That’s not the same as there will be none! I’ll still be reading/posting comments and so on, but this is off-peak season – there’s not much worthwhile to cover at the moment anyway. In the next few weeks we have at least Taskmaster and Ben Justice videos (not this Friday as he’s been ill, unfortunately) to look forward to, as well as other stuff I’ve probably forgotten. We’ll try and get another Game Night in between the end of term and Fort Boyard season and maybe some Bother’s Bar Plays Badly.
Glorious stuff.
Something to entertain while we wait: this episode of the Worst Foot Forward podcast has one of the Knightmare Live Lords Fear staying hilariously in character for a good hour while discussing the worst emperor with the two usual hosts. I like the series without completely being in love with it, but this was a very good one.
how about a full episode of Passaparola, the Italian Alphabetical.
The 2005 edition was the “Whittle” season.
Interesting that they don’t use the entire alphabet. Maybe that’s what Alphabetical should have done?
Also, they should have just called our version Password so that the thing of saying the title instead of Pass actually works
In a bit of a real-life Slumdog Millionaire situation, a homeless man in Argentina has won the top prize ,about £8.5k, on their version of Millionaire https://www.lanacion.com.ar/espectaculos/quien-quiere-ser-millonario-santiago-del-moro-nid2243548/amp
This is really the most interesting gameshow news there currently is.
I think he only actually got to question 12 – the top prize these days is 2 million pesos, he won 500k.
I stand corrected. I’ve had a look at the money tree for that version and it is very strange.
Recently the Press Your Luck revival in the US was announced to have found a host in the form of Elizabeth Banks, and that got me thinking along two strands.
The first strand was the notion that I couldn’t actually think of many US gameshows hosted by women; I picked out Hollywood Game Night, the Meredith Viera era of WWTBAM; on bringing this up elsewhere another person suggested The Chase and Gameshow Marathon to me. but beyond that I really struggled to come up with anything – when compared to UK telly where we have quite a range – just in terms of current stuff, QI, Top Class, Only Connect, A Question of Sport, Strictly Come Dancing, Fifteen To One all fit the bill – but I’m not sure if that’s down to me perhaps being a bit ignorant of the *greater* range of US gameshows compared with what I know about UK ones.
But then I got thinking a little further, and I noted something else: I hadn’t listed any ITV shows. Racking my brain further, all I could come up with from ITV’s past was The Vault and Blind Date. Surely there’s got to be more?
Off the top of my head: Kaye Adams and Kirsty Young (People Versus), Sarah Kennedy (Busman’s Holiday), Julia Bradbury (Take On The Twisters)… there must be more, surely? Holly Willoughby on Play to the Whistle. If we’re accepting co-hosts, clearly Ulrika was the lead host on Gladiators.
The Chase and Dog Eat Dog were both hosted by the same person in the US, Brooke Burns of course. Emma Kennedy did Friend or Foe on GSN.
I was literally just about to comment People Versus
Depending on how far we want to go: Mel B did This Is My Moment, Kate Thornton The X Factor, Angela Rippon/Penelope Keith What’s My Line, Marti Caine (New Faces), Rhona Cameron (Russian Roulette) (I’m just going through UKGSC now)…
Annabel Croft on Interceptor!
I’ll stop now.
Amanda Holden’s T̶h̶e̶ ̶C̶r̶y̶s̶t̶a̶l̶ ̶M̶a̶z̶e̶ The Door
It may be interesting, may be not, that not many of these have really lasted. Ulrika (but as a co-host). Cilla on Blind Date/Moment of Truth. Davina’s most successful show is on a different channel.
You mean Lisa Kennedy, obviously.
Carol Vorderman hosted one-series wonder Grand Slam in 2003 (no surprises there) and Tess Daly hosted awful Lottery show This Time Tomorrow in 2008. Also Nadia Sawalha hosted Irish import It’s Not The Answer in 2001.
And never forget Debbie Greenwood hosting First Class.
Carol also hosted Britain’s Brainiest, probably the most by-the-numbers post-Millionaire quiz .
And Clare Balding hosted Britain’s Brightest in 2013 (totally unrelated to Britain’s Brightest Family).
Liza Tarbuck – Win, Lose or Draw Late.
(Related: Does anyone else draw comparisons between Liza’s hosting style on this show and Celebrity Game Night?)
Melinda Messenger/Jodie Penfold Fort Boyard. Surprised no one mentioned that yet.
Not on ITV they didn’t.
in other news. Fort boyard is getting the big video game release this year. https://nintendoeverything.com/fort-boyard-hitting-switch-in-june/

Celeb Game Night is kind of WLoD+25 years, so it would make sense really.
I wholeheartedly agree!
Sue Robbie on Connections
Don’t hold me to this but in the last 2 years when Fort boyard returned, within a week The crystal maze did as well. If this is the case I’m calling out that June 21st to June 28th will be its premiere.
