The Million Pound Drip Feed

By | May 6, 2010

Keep an eye out on Twitter, the format details for The Million Pound Drop seem to be being slowly revealed.

It’s not sounding brilliant so far to be honest. Eight questions and some trapdoors.

It’s falling for the trap of suggesting that the money’s theirs at the the start, except it isn’t really – it’s not really a gamble if you’re forced to do it. It is not like you can just walk away with the million that you are apparently given before the first question is asked. It looks like jeopardy, but it isn’t jeopardy.

Also, (certainly up until a few years ago at least), a large number of people still thought Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? was live, despite the fact it’s only been done once. So the other USP doesn’t really cut it as a USP.

Edit: Oh wow, they can spread the money between trapdoors. So basically it’s exactly like Succes Verzekerd, then.

I’d suggest it is the British version of Succes Verzekerd

I’ve hear rumors of skill games being in there too -anyone else heard about that?

Succes Verzekard (it means “Assured Success”, Google Translation fans) is definitely Fremantle, is it?

Perhaps Endemol have bought the license to it, like they do Millionaire in some countries.

Looks like Sucess Verzekerd with four options on every question to me… and not on the Million Dollar Password set.

Endemol licensing the format? Makes sense to me as an explanation.

“It looks like jeopardy, but it isn’t jeopardy.”

Unless they’re answering in the form of a question, of course.

I don’t know if this is relevant, but in next week’s TV Choice mag, there’s a letter on the back page that says:

“Endemol UK, the team behind Deal Or No Deal, Divided and Pointless, is looking for contestants for a new game show with a big cash prize. Contestants must be confident and willing to take a risk! If you’re interested, please email bigcash@endemoluk.com

I’m wondering if this is anything to do with this show.

Leaving it very late in the day aren’t they to sniff out members of the great unwashed to take part in the show?
The AppalingStore ticket website says T£1MD will air later this month…

All the contestants have been recruited over the last 10 days – auditions were trailed on social networking sites, where you had to sign up to get a ‘drop code’ to download the app form.

And Facebook and Twitter have been the only contestant recruitment methods used, it would seem – so isn’t that going to mean the age spread of the players is fairly limited (i.e. they’ll mostly be young?) Maybe that’s what C4 are going for.
