Bored tonight? Ash the Bash is back at 8pm with his first public playtest of his 1 vs 100 live playalong software on Twitch, hoping to bring back the glory days of XBox Live. Edit: And here’s the link!
I hope at least the questions scale a bit better. I didn’t love XBox Live 1 vs 100 as others did, I think Ellie Gibson summed up the experience pretty well in a Eurogamer article 10 years ago. I can’t be around tonight but look forward to seeing how it all goes down.
I have just learnt a fun word and wish to share it with you, through the medium of a question.
Where in the world of UK game shows would you find the repeated use of a vibraslap? (I have one famous answer in mind but would be amused to learn others.)
I’d be impressed by the knowledge of anyone who knew what one was without having to look it up.
I had to look it up and then immediately Countdown sprung to mind.
Is there one in Mallet’s Mallet?
Nice guess. Evidence suggests not but I had to check. The percussion in use is surely not dissimilar, and I’m not talking about the mallet.
I want The Horne Section to use one in the appropriate places one time they’re appearing. It’s practically a comedy skit by itself without having to do anything else.
Gear4music sell vibraslaps for £7. That’s I-don’t-need-one-but-I-want-one territory. I might get one.
It sounds very much like the end of the It’s All Yours round on Masterteam.
The sound effect when they light up the skulls during the dungeon era of the Gunk Dunk.
I’m a percussion guy, I know things.
Also IIRC the word itself is technically a trademark of LP, so that explains why the one I have is a generically names one called the ‘crasher’ or something.
I don’t think I’ve ever heard “vibraslap,” but that was the first instrument that came to mind when I saw the word. Not sure if that counts.
Thank you very much for your sightings. I have thoroughly enjoyed the thread and each of you should award yourself a vibraslap on the back.
