Saw this at Applause Store:
Money Tree is an exciting, fun, new primetime gameshow that features a MASSIVE big name star, one you’ve never seen host a UK gameshow… trust us you won’t be disappointed!
The show sees two families go head-to-head over a series of fun trivia rounds. But unlike every other show, the question value will be decided by contestants themselves.
So it they are feeling super confident they could add some big, big money to the tree. Who will win and can they shake a fortune off the Money Tree?
Please place your bets on how massive this big name star will be. Anyway I can’t make it, but it’s filming at BBC Elstree (also a tree) on Thursday 18th. Do let us know what you thought if you go.
It seems odd for there to be such an emphasis on the host, which makes me wonder if it’s a slightly tongue-in-cheek casting of a *character* (not unlike Tommy Maitland). So I’m going to stick my neck out and make a wild guess at: a muppet. Either Kermit or – if they’re leaning into the diva angle – Miss Piggy.
My metaphorical money is on Hugh Grant, if you give me sufficiently long odds, because of something he said once years ago which gave me the impression that he had a passing interest in game shows. That said, I’d prefer the idea of it being Miss Piggy.
I think everyone’s overthinking it, it’ll be Donny Osmond on the basis no-one watched Pyramid or Ideniny.
I’m sure Donny would want to get rid of both of those shows from his history, especially Identity which was an alright idea executed exceptionally badly.
Maybe the host will actually be someone who has hosted a lot of game shows, and they’re just trying to mess with us. I have absolutely no idea who it will be if it is going to be someone unexpected, but I doubt it will anyone who is considered cool now. Probably someone old.
I think it’s most likely to be someone who’s presented game shows abroad because otherwise why would they put “UK game shows” instead of just “game shows”? My money’s on someone like Steve Harvey or Craig Ferguson.
Good thinking, I hadn’t thought of that.
Two random guesses:
Neil Patrick Harris? He hosts a US gameshow (Genius Jr) but has never hosted a UK one, and he’s a big enough star and well-known enough in the UK to make the whole exercise seem worthwhile. I can also imagine NPH hosting a UK gameshow.
Ryan Seacrest? He’s quite a big name, he’s not that busy these days, and he owns a production company that does reality shows which might bring him into doing a UK gameshow.
I would imagine between doing Live With Kelly and Ryan daily, his radio shows and American Idol, I’d be surprised he’d have time to be honest.
You’re right – I completely forgot he was doing Live these days. Easy to fit other things around a radio show and less than half a year of Idol but not with a syndicated show on top.
Well if anyone can get to the recording from the forum please give a hint to the person as there is likely a confidentiality clause in place if the name is released.
It won’t be very exciting. That is a Bother’s Bar Guarantee you can take to the BANK. Otherwise they’d advertise it.
Also, Brig, you get ALL the earworm points for the video link that you posted without comment (though the context makes it clear).
What is an earworm point not? A good point.
The full version is two and a half minutes long, do go and look it up.
Oh believe me I had.
In my head, my memory of the song is that as well as (or instead of?) the singers there was a man performing the lyrics, roughly in the patter song tradition most recently demonstrated by Len Goodman “rapping” the Partners in Rhyme lyrics.
Alfonso has been named by applause store as host. Carlton from Fresh Prince of Bel Air.
Woooooow.
Would never have guessed in a million years. He’s hosted a couple of US gameshows before, and if I remember correctly he was in I’m A Celeb a few years ago .
