It’s BotherSOP Thursday, again!

By | April 15, 2010

pokertrophy2Keep your eyes on the prize, the prize being that trophy there. It’s another round of the BotherSOP at Full Tilt at 8pm on Sunday, the details of which I have forgotten to put up, brilliantly. I will do so this afternoon, if you don’t fancy going through them all yourselves (it currently exists and is registerable). This game marks the halfway point in the proceedings and thoughts of “possibly it should be October to March next time” surely can’t be coming from just me. David Bodycombe currently leads the pack by a catchable landslide, but the battle for the silver and bronze prizes is currently very exciting indeed.

As always, I extend the “come and join us!” hand of community friendship safe in the konwledge that nobody will take it up. Ah well.

In other news:

  • Can we fix it? Yes we Caan.
  • We learn that Dec from Ant and Dec is scared of birds.
  • Mission: 2110 sounds like it’s pilfering its end game from the mighty The Adventure Game. We are quite excited. (Via to the mighty Quizzlestick)
  • A new series of 8th best new format of 2009 You Have Been Watching begins tonight on Channel 4, after apparently 21m (more like 4m, I reckon) viewers have watched this year’s biggest gameshow, the first leader’s debate. WHO WILL WIN? Don’t forget that Sky News HD launches with their leader’s debate soon. Watch their heads crease in HIGH DEF!

Ha ha, yes! I had seen the Dart in the Head footage before, but I love that write-up of the proceedings, so a big thumbs-up to whoever wrote it.

That was Lee Ashcroft, who’s hardly been sighted since. Hello Lee, if you’re out there.

Bannatyne and Caan have invested together before (remember the Chocbox and the Rapstrap, and that magnetic thing for pulling wires through walls?) so this sudden vague animosity is rather baffling.

Tournament ID is 153244386, if anyone was wondering.

I must comment Brig on his tournament structure because the grand finale will give anyone the chance to make up 16 points on me. I wonder what the winning post is given the current scoring? And of course given that we’re only halfway, that means there’s nothing to stop the second half completely reversing the table the other way around.

Thanks very much! I like to think it strikes a decent balance between everyone’s always franchised but the cream ultimately rises.

Looks like from the contestant call and what Xander said today, the third series could start sometime in the autumn.

To Brig (and whoever else might be C21screenings members): Were you rejected the first time you applied? I got a delightful email saying I hadn’t been selected for inclusion (“The details provided are not sufficient to set up your account yet – could you please contact me to verify you want the account activated and your interest in C21screenings.net?” Which is odd considering I filled in all of the blanks…), so I sent a response explaining my situation (broadcasting student, curious about the process, etc.). That was two days ago. There’s been no response since then. Would it be safe to assume I’ve been granted official outright rejection by now?

The actual truth is… I chanced it suggesting I’m the writer of this place and they let me in no questions asked about six hours later. I was terrified they’d phone me up and I’d have to blag (which I’m not all that comfortable with), but I do have a proper telly production credit I might have been able to bargain with.

I did that when it first opened up a little while ago, I can’t guarantee they’d do the same now it’s established I’m afraid.

Speaking of The Cube, those who applied to be on the second series should have been sent an application form by now. I’ve got mine! 🙂

Thanks for the link. Last night Chuckes and I watched “O Cubo”, the Portuguese version of “The Cube”. And we were just as impressed, despite or lack of command of Portuguese.
This format is proof against any language barrier. It will work anywhere.
The Portuguese host–whose name i didn’t catch–seemed a little bland and generic when compared with either Phillip Schofield or the Saudi host–but it worked out all right. The money tree seems a bit skimpy too–top prize is thirty thousand euros (= $40,500 at latest rates, or around twenty-seven thousand quid). Gameplay is as good–or as bad–as the contestant.

I like some of the suggestions in the comments page, including live assassinations/blowings up of losing contestants live on air.

    Overnights = 9.9 million peak, 9.4 average.

    You were saying?

Actually with those sorts of ratings, look out for weekly primetime series of it on ITV over the Summer.

Also it’s worth noting that this debate was in HD too. The BBC one will be too.

Although HD would have felt odd, facial expressions notwithstanding, on such a bare set as last night’s – Dan Peake likened it on Facebook to the Accumulate! set…

Talking about HD. I notice The Whole 19 Yards will be the first show to be broadcasted on ITV1 in true HD rather than upscaled.

9.9 million peak for the first election debate. Will be interesting if Simon Cowell does beat that tomorrow and he’s got stronger competition.

I say first, unless you count the debate as the first game show.

I still find it astonishing that The Cube wasn’t in HD.
