It’s Bother’s Bar Game Night 7 on Saturday

By | October 3, 2017

From 9pm and we’re looking for panellists. If you’ve got a microphone and are available from 9pm to 11:30pm on Saturday (camera not necessary) I’d like to hear from you – leave a comment or find me on Twitter. If you don’t want to be a panellist you can still play along anyway! Get your second screen out and watch our live stream here and on Youtube. The Audience is the 8th player, and this episode a member of the audience with a microphone will get to represent the entire viewing public in the exciting Arbitrary Grand Final at the end of the evening.

If you’ve not seen it before, we play a load of Jackbox Games live, as well as some bonus concocted stuff (including own brand smash-hit worldwide marble racing quiz sensation The Road to Sortition). Earn points by winning games, the player with the most points gets a tiny advantage in the winner takes all Arbitrary Grand Final. Here’s a playlist.

In the meantime if you didn’t fancy sitting through five plus hours of our Schlag den Henssler Watchalong this weekend just gone, I’ve made a quick and dirty edit of the two main own-brand events.

First, the revival of amazing eighties quiz Connections!

And really the main event, the non-copyright infringing David J Bodycombe’s Puzzle Mansion!

Enjoy.

I like that a lot. Comparing it to the original, the balance on your version sounds more natural, and the harder edge to the bass works for me. The harmony chords you add at 0:30 and 0:34 make the tune make more sense.

A quick search on YouTube does not reveal any (?) of The People Versus version 1. which chugged along at something like seven questions per half-hour, which would be worth seeing again once just to make myself aghast. It does, however, reveal this, attributed to Keith Strachan, which alludes to either a YouTube version or a YouTube version of a quiz machine version, or something. Very unusual!

Remakes: we’ll take whatever you think sounds like fun to you!

It looks like a reusable mock-up of the UI someone’s made for the purpose of doing their own YouTube version, that Keith Strachan has borrowed with permission for portfolio purposes.

        I used these as reference:
        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H5JIc2Qreuw (Opening Full)
        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sGFdXle-smI (Credits Full)

The original opening had the big staggered drum-laden zoom-in on a spotlit woman’s eye, which they dumped for the daytime series to save time. I decided to combine that with the full credits which have the extra chords and the double melody. It was so unlike all their other work during the Celador golden age so it really stuck with me.

There’s a shoddy-quality clip from the set designer’s website that I foolishly failed to archive before he took it down – someone has uploaded a cam of that shoddy-quality clip which is the only surviving clip of the eye sequence (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C-gRVd8XIsk). Other than for clean footage I could only find https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hQQHX3G-3JI .

I really would love to see some more of the first series again: we remember it as deathly slow but actually I suspect if you compare it to some of the drawn-out rubbish we have to sit through nowadays it probably feels sprightly by comparison. (Aside: One fond memory I have from Golden Balls was being put in the same dressing room as Geoff Owen, who won £95,000 on the original and AFAIK was the only person to complete Round 5. Would love to see that again.)

Thank you – appreciate it. Now you have to add it to The Cellar 🙂

Would be up for being on this. Actually played as the 8th player way back when one time and had a lot of fun!

Hi Aston, unfortunately panel selection was yesterday but do watch as there might be an opportunity towards the end, and there’s another Game Night happening in a few weeks when Jackbox 4 comes out.
