Right, I have just crashed out on the bubble AGAIN in a poker tournament, so before I make myself feel better by watching people be absolutely miserable on The Door (actually, hang on), let’s take a look at the forthcoming week’s excitement:
- The Amazing Race (Sunday, CBS)
- Only Connect (8:30, Monday, BBC4): Second semi-final this week, Tommy Scott’s Hitchhikers who will probably win against The Strategists.
- Survivor (Thursday, CBS): Well this week’s was a shocker and no mistake. And now the villains are imploding! WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN?
- Partly New Total Wipeout (5:15pm, Saturday, BBC1): Because I forgot to bill it last week. Last week’s left me feeling pretty “meh”.
- Doctor Who (6:15pm, Saturday, BBC1): Hadn’t watched this for a while, quite enjoyed the series opener. Also I really liked that Manic Miner thing he did. (*)
- Schlag Den Raab (7:15pm UK time, Saturday, Pro Sieben or naughty internet streaming if we’re very lucky): Crikey, there will be no time to have your dinner next Saturday. €2m up for grabs this month, and it will all boil down to a game of Rock, Paper, Scissors, I imagine.
- Bother’s Series of Poker Game 5 (8pm, Next Sunday, the internet). Come along and watch me finish on the bubble. AGAIN. Don’t forget that there are BotherSOP games this month on runner runner Sundays, which is kind of a clever poker joke.
(*) Nobody on the internet has made this reference yet.
Of course I know Uni Chal isn’t the most popular show on this site – but the final is on Monday, with Emmanuel looking to make it a double triumph for Cambridge over Oxford after yesterday’s Boat Race.
And with surely the player of the series in captain Alex Guttenplan – who’s answered a stonking 49 starters correctly, and inevitably has been compared to Gail The Great, but has received much less press attention – they’ll be just about favourites.
If they won, they’d be the first Cambridge side to be champions since Sean Blanchflower’s Trinity in the first series of the Paxman Era, all the way back in 1994/5. They’d also emulate Durham’s feat ten years ago of winning the title after losing their first-round match.
Whichever way the final goes, let’s hope that afterwards there are no allegations of ineligible contestants…
Easter Saturday ratings.
The Phantom’s Over the Rainbow – 5.5m (26.1%)
Who Dares Wins – 5.3m (24.1%)
ALL BRAND SPANKING NEW Total Wipeout – 3.9m (22.8%)
Anton du Dec’s Pass da Baton – 3.9m (18.6%)
The Door Part Deux – 3.5m (15.9%)
Travis P got his prediction spot on yesterday. The whole ITV primetime schedule got totally slaughtered. Not one programme reached 4 million. Anton du Dec got a series low and even lost out to The Hamster’s massive assault couse on share points, they even had a very early timeslot to get the numbers. The Door also had a poor rating, Kerknick Knowles thrashed them and won the timeslot yet again, nightmares of The Colour of Money returning.
It looks like Ratings Bear will be having a two course lunch for Easter Sunday today. Antpeppered Steak with Deccy Dec Chips, followed by a nice Amazing Amanda Ice Cream with Choc Chip Tarrant. A desert Ratings Bear loved as he had an Amazing Amanda Ice Cream earlier this year.
Ahh Ratings Bear, the mysterious creature of the internets… not related to Pedobear by any chance?
Oh Good Lord, no.
Ratings Bear is NOT related to Pedobear or ManBearPig.
In my head, Ratings Bear has always been the bear from the special Slimming Picture from Look Around You.
Ha ha! The Slimby Bear, yes!
I thought Ratings Bear was Dani Behr in a fursuit.
I am delighted that all three of my favourite Only Connect teams this series reached the semi-finals, and that the final will be conducted between two of them. But which two…?
Over in France, En toutes lettres has been axed after consistently poor ratings.
Posted on DS this morning. Some behind the scenes footage from Crystal Maze.

especially to see which team it is. For those who are wondering, it’s the memorable team from series 4 who set a new record.
Did they score 11? Because Richard mentions the existing 10 record in part 1.
Ah, having seen part 3, it all makes sense now…
No team ever got 11 crystals or more. Countless teams got 10 but no more. At least that team did laugh it off and didn’t take it seriously at the end.
All I can say about Miljoenenjacht tonight is- Holy crap!
Looking forward to your report David.
Let’s say any other night the result would be fantastic..
It was frighteningly similar to Helma’s game at the end. Final eight was better – 400k and all three seven-figure amounts, with 395k turned down with alarming speed – but 400k, 1m went to leave 2.5m, 5m and four rags. Including the bottom two… The offer was just over 700k, my immediate thought was Deal, but I’m playing on if I’m prepared to accept the next offer if 5m goes, which in practice I probably am. It just feels like a Deal. She plays on… and a low one goes, and the offer’s a million. Note that Helma’s offer here was 995k…
She takes it, only to find 5m is in her case (she left the cent to the end, too!). The only two contestants to win a million since Helma are the only two to have 5m in their case, and both Dealt with five on the board, I believe.
And this makes two shows in a row someone had picked a seven-figure case (the episode before the person dealt at 275,000 Euro, but ended up having 2.5 Million- the other case in the last 2 was 1 cent as well!)
I probably would have dealt- at best, you’re looking at a 500K-600K increase if you go on and pick a left side amount. Lose the 2.5 million and it’s probably a stick, maybe slightly lower, and lose the 5 million and it’s 550K-600K. At that point the swings are just too great to go on.
