How does it work?

Pick one or two teams and then it's on to six rounds. In each round you see a picture or a clip and then face three multiple choice questions on it (it's a little bit like the show in this regard) - the exception to this is the Odd One Out round where you see four celebrities and have to work out which one is the odd one out using the criteria provided and clues at a points penalty. The Spotlight round gets rid of the picture and clip and gives you three general TV questions with a 15 second limit for each one.

The game is marked out of twenty with two rounds (Guess the Year and On the Box) offering a bonus point for getting the all important "which year is this from" and "who is this person" questions right.

Is it "good"?

On the face of it there's a pretty solid TV quiz in here that's simple but well thought-out. It's only when you dig a little deeper you begin to see the problems, and those problems are the question writing, mainly. Most of them are too easy and this isn't so much the fault of the question and more the fault of the fake answers being really easily eliminated - although granted this comes from the perspective of someone who is Quite Good At This Sort Of Thing (but one punter who pretty much didn't watch telly before 2003 still managed to get 70% of her questions correct). We would also question the research of some of the more interesting questions (and there are some interesting and good questions in there) - we got a Big Brother clip and in one of the follow-up questions we were asked who decided who got booted out in the case of a tie - Big Brother, The House Leader or The Producer. This is an interesting question because we had never thought about it before, but it's also a bad question because Big Brother and The Producer are the same thing and we don't have a House Leader. Big Brother (as it turns out) is the wrong answer so we're hoping to see the question again so we can try one of the other answers. And if it turns out that The House Leader is the correct answer then they've been watching the US show which is Very Bad Form in a contest of Brit TV knowledge.

It's a bit strange Noel talking directly to you, I get the feeling he would have been more comfortable with some sort of proper audience there (although it's good he's seems to have filmed enough inserts to cover every eventuality). And it's a shame that they use the modern Challenge TV light interpretation of the theme tune rather than the rather stonking original. And the pacing is a bit slow.

But unbelievable as it sounds, we don't want this to sound too negative. We had fun playing it and we reckon doing some maths there's enough material here to cover at least thirty two-team games. It's just a shame there are quite so many bits that could be improved upon.

And if you want to enter the text competition at the end to win a home entertainment system, make sure you buy this before the end of June 2006.
