More Push the Button

By | March 18, 2010

I can’t help but think if Ant and Dec are publicly defending Push the Button, there’s a real sense of panic going round.

I’m still happy to stick my neck out and suggest that the show is OK. I wondered if last week’s game that involved working out what things in boxes were by touch alone, those things including a snake and a spider was a bit ‘off’ (I’d have quite happily punched Dec in the face there and then if they tried that with me, ahem), but the rest of the games range from mildly entertaining (although I felt “put these seven waxworks in order of UK Number One singles” was a bit vague. Chronologically? No, by how many they had) to very good (another very good game four this week with the pipeworking).  If they’re trying to emulate The Generation Game, perhaps they should put something a bit more learning a skill based in to go along with the performance based game they have every week. The end game remains functional and doesn’t do much for me personally.

It will be interesting to see how it does this weekend without Let’s Dance to compete with it.

There’s not a lot wrong that can’t be fixed with PtB that a couple of extra games won’t fix. There’s far too much “grouting” and not enough tiles.

The quality of the show is there, with new games every week (and quite good ones at that) and even the titles are slick particularly with the running Generation Game gag. But all the stage management of moving people left right and centre takes up too much of the show.

That article says it all – they have fun while filming it but that fun isn’t translating to the viewer.

i think they just need to use games which take money off over time and not over a set amount. i really liked the way they did the boxes which took off money last episode.

I agree – that is supposed to be the concept of the show, and when they deviate from it it doesn’t work as well.

I also agree with the above – though there are issues which should really have been sorted out before broadcast, it’s nothing that can’t be fixed. A quicker intro (and let’s face it, by series 2 Ant and Dec won’t be bothering going to the family homes!), a much improved end game and probably one extra game featuring the entire family would be a step in the right direction.

IMO it’s much better for both ITV and Ant and Dec to try and make this work and give it a second chance than to try yet another new format, or bring back Saturday Night Takeaway, which most viewers agreed was pretty tired last year. Although they could easily expand the Ant v Dec concept into a series of it’s own, with bigger challenges a possibility without the confines of a live TV show.

The spiel on The Door from Digiguide.

Chris Tarrant and Amanda Holden host a two-part gameshow in which celebrities face a series of tough challenges in a bid to win 25,000 pounds for charity. Taking part are Boyzone’s Keith Duffy, Frankie Sandford from pop group The Saturdays, EastEnder Dean Gaffney, Coronation Street’s Jennie McAlpine, presenter Michael Underwood and The Bill’s Louisa Lytton. In the first episode, the stars are transported to a mysterious storage facility where they must escape a prison cell through a maze of claustrophobic tunnels. If they make it through that, their next challenge concerns toxic peril in an abandoned food factory. With only three celebrities going through automatically to the final, the rest of the contenders will need to qualify for the remaining place by competing in an endurance challenge known as The Dungeon.

Hang on, “maze of claustrophobic tunnels”…

Or if they just keep reminding themselves that they are in a studio in Maidstone, that Health and Safety have given the set design the thumbs up to, then I’m sure they’ll be fine..

Changing countries and not quite a gameshow but, – I know the next 4 hours on the laptop watching Pro7 on Saturday night is the 10th April – but, does anyone here know if will the Raab’s wintersports special this weekend will be re-broadcasted on this here interweb?
Watching the tease VT during the late January Schalg Den Rabb, it looked quite amusing…

Good thing you reminded me, I should watch more Italian and German TV.

Ah, you mean the TV Total Wok WM 2010. Possibly one of Raab’s best inventions ever. I hope they will do another Autoball tournament as the first one he did in 2008 was literally car crash telly.

Don’t forget it is on tomorrow (Friday) NOT Saturday. If you can find a feed from 9.30pm then you catch the live qualifying tonight.

Good spot Travis. Watching it now.

As for Autoball you are in luck – a trail for Autoball 2010 has just been run. No doubt some kind streamer on ‘blokes-first-name-starting-in-J.tv’ will be doing the honours on the evening of Fri 4th June.
