Thinking about this yesterday, while watching 1000 Heartbeats immediately followed by Family Fortunes; Has anyone hosted as many extremely different gameshows as Vernon Kay?
You’ve got 1000 Heartbeats, All Star Family Fortunes, Million Dollar Mind Game, The Whole 19 Yards, Headjam, Beat the Star and Celebrities Under Pressue
PLUS everything he hosted during the second series of Gameshow Marathon!
The man is a quiz show chameleon
I’m sure Chris Tarrant and Bob Monkhouse hosted more, but I would also suggest that Vernon and Davina are good utility hosts, in that you could throw a format at them and they’d do a decent job, so they’re natural first people to go to.
I guess I’d argue that Vernon hasn’t had a “big” show like Tarrant (Millionaire), McCall (Big Brother) and Monkhouse (Bob’s Full House, probably?), so no one show stands out most when I think of him hosting.
Mmmm. The other way to look at it is that he isn’t far from “The Curse of Kielty” territory – and I have a lot of time for both of the big Ks.
Taking a squiz at the chart, while this is of course a subjective matter, I think Paul Ross deserves to at least be in the conversation (though, arguably, based on a single outlier).
To me, Paul Ross will forever be remembered as the host of “No Win, No Fee”, just because I felt it was the most ridiculous thing ever, especially given how straight it was played (Win Beadles/Ben Steins Money it was not)
Did Paul Ross also used to host a show which involved people playing fighting games against each other and whoever lost got thrown into some smoke filled pit? Or am I mixing my sleep medication up again?
That was Andy Collins in Games World.
Already put a form in or this. If Freeze Out falls flat, then at least I have this to fall back on
*for this, that should say
