324 things that sound as though they could be slightly rude

By | January 28, 2013

Well done to ITV’s The Chase which has just been “picked up” (as they say “in the trade”) for 324 new episodes, two series of 150 episodes, and 24 celebrity specials. Goodness me, I didn’t know there were that many celebrities.

That means ITV have about twice as much confidence in The Chase than the BBC have for Pointless which got a 183 episode order recently. Game on!

In other news, Pointless begins recording at Elstree in March.

Edit: Hat tip to David, here’s the pitch film for Catchphrase 2013! Not for the faint of heart. It’s taken from the pilots, so the set will look different (better I think) when it hits your screens soon. The “advanced 3D graphics” are the same though.

Or, more to the point, he keeps tweeting his own views and ideas as regards television (certain demographics, “Simon Cowell is great”, The Voice UK, et cetera et cetera) – and sticks rigidly to these views and ideas, not giving a fiddler’s how right or how wrong they are.

And – as I’m sure you know yourself, Travis – if you try to get him to see the errors of his ways, he’ll basically act like he’s telling you to bugger off.

He also claims that he’s 55 years old – I strongly doubt that a typical 55-year-old anywhere in the world would readily go on a site like Twitter and post barrages of crap in the manner of a five-year-old, without caring at all what anyone else might think of his/her actions.

…Can I say on here that I think he’s a selfish, stupid little prick?

(If I can’t, then feel free to delete it, Brig – as well as any other words or lines you think might be a bit much.)

I always pictured him as a mid 20’s something, who thought that going to university to do media studies rather than proper legwork and work experience around the place meant he thought he was qualified to walk into any job in television – and Endemol were (after countless rejections – see some of his deeply flawed formulaic format pitches he posted on here) were the only ones who would have him.

But then some postings swung between (occasionally) actually insightful, and the frustratingly downright Endemol hero worship – which made me then think it was someone adept at writing things pitched and aimed for the right target.
Someone who could write as a parody of someone who was happy to work at Endemol. Mentioning no names, Richard..

Well, he certainly hated The Cube and The Chase (and probably still does). 🙄 😉

And remember when he suggested that The Cube should have general knowledge questions in it? Jesus Christ…

And when he said 101 Ways to Needlessly Pad Out a Game Show was one of the best light entertainment programmes the BBC had in years. Puh-LEASE!!!

96 celebrities… It’s impossible in Germany (if you want people to watch it…).

It’s simple. Do what Celebrity Millionaire do all the time and recycle celebrities.

Far too many celeb editions for my liking and the shows daytime ratings show they don’t need them – but other than that an absolute no brainer for ITV and hopefully it means it’ll run most of the year without repeats.

And just hope when Pointless films it’s next batch it ends this stupid quick intro of the contestants – it’s something I’m really not liking this series.

I suspect they’ll revert to repeats for the half term breaks, Easter and summer. Something they applied to in 2012.

Given this is a two year deal I’m guessing the celebrity editions will be four series of six episodes each. One series in the spring/summer, one in the autumn/winter and repeat for 2014. Doesn’t look that bad if they do that.

Re: Pointless, I was one of those people who would wind forward to 8 minutes in and you wouldn’t miss any game content.

However, the iPlayer people get minute-by-minute data on which ‘bits’ you watch so I wonder if the producers have been told that that’s what people are doing.

To be honest, if they’d started the show from scratch again, this method of getting the show going would have been more sensible since it gets the game underway far more smoothly. It’s only because it’s a change from what we’ve been used to that we don’t like it.

I guess they’ve done it for the same reason The Chase moved their break from after the 1st contestant to after the 2nd. Those 8 minutes though set the show up nicely I thought and it was one show where contestant chat wasn’t an annoyance as it set things up nicely, especially with them having returning pairs. IMO the new format not only makes the contestant chat less interesting but also ruin Round 1 by constantly interupting it.

(Plus the 8 minutes gave me chance when I got in from work to get things done before settling down to watch the main game!)
