The AIs Have It

By | April 17, 2019

News this morning of Speedgate, the world’s first AI (with a lot of human help) created sport. Maybe it will become the next Tenball, who knows?

So this begs the question (ding!) which game or quiz show most feels like it’s been put together by AI? We’ve not disparagingly compared a show to Quizzlestick for a while.

In other news: FOTB Ash the Bash and this quiz show Twitch stream Wednesdays will tonight be taking on Duel from 8pm. This will be live but not interactive like previous games The Wonderwall and 1 vs 100 as far as I’m aware. Do check it out.

I know it’s not all that original to say this, but The Wall feels like someone has thrown Deal or No Deal, Plinko and every big-money quiz ever through a machine.

This reminds me of a little PC game called Behold the Kickmen- a football game designed by someone who has no understanding of it (it’s actually pretty decent, and it’s only about $5 on Steam):

This turned up in my e-mail, tickets SRO, Knock Knock:

“Join Rob Beckett (All Together Now, Live at the Apollo, 8 out of 10 Cats) for the pilot of a brand new gameshow for a major UK channel.

Featuring exciting gameplay, surprise celebrity appearances and loads of laughs, the show sees contestants competing for prizes in a series of fun rounds that put their memory & trivia skills to the test.

The show records at 6.45pm on Thursday 23rd May 2019 at Dock10 Studios, MediaCity, Manchester. If you would like to join us for an evening of fun & laughter, then apply now!”

Surely, SURELY, this isn’t an adult reversion of who-am-I based skip-featuring CBBC show of the late 80s?

The revived series of Crystal Maze…

I mean it had to be a computer that put together all the bits it thought it needed to improve the show :-p

As someone who chipped in ideas to this two years ago (hello!), I’ve been wondering why this has been sat in the shelf for so long.

Anyway, you can pretty much tell the basic conceit from the trailer. Contestants must not move, and get punished by a forfeit if they do so. Comedians bet on who they think will do best, though I am unclear how seriously they take the scoring element of that.

Many gameshows of the 80’s in Italy would qualify. One was Tic Tac Dough with the Pyramid bonus round… played by Family Feud teams.

I’ve always quite admired the Italian attitude to format development, just chuck a load of stuff at a wall and see what sticks. A lot of the time it’s rubbish, but occasionally it’s gold.

That means they probably can’t do anything where the designs give clues to the Mole’s identity as they have in previous years.
