Here’s something I had no idea about until a chum bought it up just now: why isn’t A Question of Sport on iPlayer? This doesn’t seem to be an accident.
Meanwhile Peter Dickson mentions on Twitter that Mission:2110 starts CBBC Monday 3rd June at the interesting time of 5:45.
The only thing I can think of is that it’s an achive sports rights issue.
Yes, that was my first thought as well, but I’d be interested in anything more concrete.
The kickoff times for all World Cup matches are 12:30pm (early in the tournament only), 3pm or 7:30pm:

And that’s all there is to it! 5:45pm dodges every single WC match. I would expect the BBC to air their 3pm weekday matches in a show that runs until 5:15pm, followed by Link and the news, with the evening matches being covered from 7pm.
For the record, David’s scheduling suggestion was exactly what the BBC did: early matches ran 12.15-2.30, afternoon matches 2.45-5.15 shunting CBBC to BBC2, and evening games went out 7-10. ITV did pretty much the same thing, except their afternoon slot ended at 5pm, allowing viewers to see The Chase*.
* – That’s except for viewers in Scotland, who saw their own local programmes instead.
disappointing mission is getting its first airing on cbbc, would be good to see them promoting it to a risk in its bbc 1slot.
I think the aim is to try and get people watching the CBBC Channel, no? It seems like a lot of their first-run shows start there these days.
Brig’s right, as usual, most Children’s Department commissions this year premiered on CBBC. Off the top of my head, I think Blue Peter and Raven 9 are the only shows to first air on BBC1.
Traditionally, 5.15 has been seen as the plum slot, but David explains why 5.45 will be the new primetime in June.
I have only just noticed they are screening Total Wipeout reruns from series 1 on weekend mornings on the CBBC channel. How long has that been going on?
About a fortnight but it’s proving a hit for the channel. The weekend repeats are appearing in the channel’s top ten and one edition even made it to number one.
It’s The Crystal Maze for the ’00s!
Equally, whilst reading the Radio Times today, The Sarah Jane Adventures had been shoved on BBC Three. ( i know this isnt game show related, but the crossover seems interesting.)
There’s an item on Broacastnow today about CBBC’s controller Damian Kavanagh wanting to air some CBBC shows on BBC1, outside the CBBC block. It also says, rather oddly, “He [Kavanagh] is also looking at taking some of the BBC’s mainstream family hits, such as Total Wipeout, for CBBC.” Which suggests that someone doesn’t realise it’s already happened.
With things like Bang Goes The Theory already on BBC1, I think it’s probably already happened.
Ha ha… yes, I did find it amusing that when Bang Goes The Theory got told off for some safety violation or other, all the papers reported trouble for “children’s science programme Bang Goes The Theory”. But I still watch for Jem Stansfield. He rocks.
I like the fact that the twenty-sixth study into “do Brain Training games really work? I mean REALLY this time?” came up with exactly the same conclusion as every other study into it.
Watching Saudi Cube. No wonder LostInTV had to put out all the stops to get people to attend, the audience looks a quarter full capacity.
Due to a completely careless oversight on my part, I ‘forgot’ to catch-up with OC on the I Player for the last few weeks, and of course now it’s the end of the series it’s been taken off – is it repeated sometime, as I feel a bit of an idiot having missed the 2nd semi and the final…
You forgot for WEEKS?! Frankly, you should be thankful you’re not being lynched.
It was repeated 5 times a week. I don’t think any more repeats are planned.
I know, truly unforgivable… although thankfully the final is repeated next wednesday at 23:30, which I’ve Sky+’d immediately!
I imagine they are on naughty torrent sites somewhere, although obviously I can’t condone going down that route in case BBC4 lose loads of advertising money.
