Lockdown entertainment on BBC2

By | April 21, 2020

Things we’ve just discovered on old-school linear television (alright, Grandad) this lunchtime when my internet went down:

  • The new series of Bother’s Bar surprise fave I’ll Get This started last week and continues on Tuesday nights at 10pm.
  • I watched Curiosity for the first time, currently being repeated on BBC2 at 1pm. Antiques not really my thing (although I love an auction, obviously), but thought this was quite a neat show – like an Antiques Crystal Maze (Paul Martin’s got the personality to carry it off, and he even has Richard O’ Brien style asides to the camera, mainly informational, some fun) as people go into themed rooms and complete pricing/dating/odd one out style challenges. Not must watch by any means, but I absolutely appreciate what they’ve tried to do within the confines of a BBC daytime budget. And Baxter (played by Maggie) probably the best gameshow dog since The One Off The Great Antiques Hunt with Jilly Goolden.

Edit: it sounds like there was a Taskmaster coming soon advert after Countdown today (although it can’t be that soon, surely?). With apologies for comment jumping on this post:

And finally (with all these tweets this feels like a Daily Express article):

So there we are.

It’s time for Ben Justice’s PEOPLE’S Top 100 UK Gameshows Of All Time!

By | April 20, 2020

You may remember actual real TV developer Ben Justice did a ten-part series last year counting down his personal Top 100 UK Gameshows of All Time, and if you haven’t watched it here’s an exciting playlist.

Well! TV is a bit quiet at the moment and he’s proposing THE PEOPLE’S Top 100 UK Gameshows Of All Time, which is great as it means I don’t have to do it, and he’s promising more EXCLUSIVE video content.

But he needs YOUR votes to put it together.

If that link isn’t working, try this one – it’s just a Google form.

Do it for Luna!

Bother’s Bar Does Turnabout

By | April 19, 2020

Surprise extra video content! We were having a production meeting for a thing on Sunday night and TV’s David Bodycombe surprised us by asking if we wanted a game of Turnabout. Yes, obviously.

New Chaser finally revealed

By | April 16, 2020

The Mirror reporting that Irishman Darragh Ennis, a former contestant, is the new Chaser Bradley teased end of last year.

I think it’s fair to say pretty much nobody predicted that, so well done if you got that at home.

In other news, Beat the Chasers starts on Monday 27th at 9pm and runs nightly. I suspect this is rather hopeful, but we’ll see.

Show and tell

After a recent comment I thought I might do a video on me doing impressions of your favourite gameshow sound effects using nothing but my extremely talented deep registered voice.

This means I need to know what sound effects you want. Get your choices in by Friday night and I’ll do it over the weekend. No limits to what you suggest but I’ll probably limit the video to 15-20. That’s even if we get 15-20 suggestions.

Edit: Now closed, thanks.
