Schlag den Raab 17th March 2012

By | March 17, 2012

7:15pm UK (8:15 CET),
Pro Sieben or (fingers crossed) internet streaming

It’s the first Schlag den Raab of the 2012! After winning the previous battle in December 66-0, Stefan Raab has a million Euro to defend. Hopefully tonight’s batch of contestants will put up a bit more of a fight.

I’m not going to be here for the start, but the regular punters normally offer up a commentary if you want to join the live discussion.

Stefan trying some F1 style ‘slipstreaming’ in the last race. Although the speed of barging between both of them I was fearing a bit of live television whiplash injury receiving.

This game looks like it’s a case of collecting as many rings as possible that currently lie at the bottom of the pool.

I don’t think they are, they’re very good at this if they are blindfolded!

Hey, bottom of the pool, speed ring collecting.
Hopefully, penalties will be given for ‘bombing’ and ‘petting’ as readers here of a certain age will remember are not allowed in any pools.

I was hoping though, it was going to be 10mtr high board diving played in this game.

The name suggested a diving contest, but it would be rather one-sided if one person can’t dive, so I guess they went with something both can do.

Pool looks about 2m deep. If one person collects all 100, they win. They thread the rings on a pole.

They can see a clock, looks like they have to be on the pole to count.

Raab off to a strong start but looks like he’s running out of puff. Alexander showing good stamina.

Just by eye, it looks close as to who got more rings…

    Presentation observation.
No ‘music bed’ under these two games, neither are we getting the full audience sfx either.

Wonder if control has been passed to the OB scanner in the car park, and the main studio isn’t running on pres these two games.

67 for Raab, Alexander has 80 and 4 points! 6:4 to Alexander, Raab threatens to throw host Stephen into the pool!

    Good idea Stefan.
Chucking the presenter in pool makes good tv for the people watching at home (and via underhand methods in the UK), but it does make you horrible enemies in the sound department, when they have to repair waterlogged radio mic and director talkback earpiece systems.

Elton’s pulling double duty this episode because the last one finished before Blameren oder Kasserien came on. That’s what I reckon anyway.

For those curious of the distance between the two locations..

    http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=Brainpool+TV+GmbH,+Schanzenstra%C3%9Fe,+K%C3%B6ln,+Deutschland&hl=en&ie=UTF8&ll=50.957129,6.993914&spn=0.031898,0.077162&sll=50.968806,6.998463&sspn=0.063781,0.154324&oq=brainpool&t=h&hq=Brainpool+TV+GmbH,+Schanzenstra%C3%9Fe,+K%C3%B6ln,+Deutschland&z=14

The A pin – is where Brainpool tv is, and the swimming pool is ‘lentpark’ halfway up the map centre left.

Not that far to go at all – hence why they are back in 5-10 mins.

    Right, we’re all back.

Game 5 for 5 points is Blameriren oder Kassierien! And Elton’s back! First to seven, right answers worth a point, wrong answer gives a point to your opponent and gives them a chance to answer for a second point.

Google Translate has that as ‘The Chain’, not the awesome Fleetwood Mac song, sadly…

looks like they have to make a bridge between two posts with what looks like stryofoam peanuts…

Those are my thoughts, but at the same time I can’t see how that can work!

It looks like they’re using those yellow pads to stick them together

looks like there’s a gluepad to put them together- after they bridge the gap, they have to ring a bell, and I think what happens is if it stays together for 5 seconds unsupported, they win, otherwise the opponent wins.

Right, using packing peanuts and a glue pad, players must create a chain that spans a gap between two uprights about 1.5m apart. It must stand for ten seconds.

While we’re waiting, I looked at the showpage for Elton vs Simon..the loose translation is it’s SDR-like, with up to 15 games, but they set them up as three periods- 1st five are worth 1pt, 2nd 5 are worth 2pts, last 5 are worth 3pts.

Elton vs Simon has been going for a while, I think the ‘thing’ is that the loser has to do a painful forfeit.

It’s a VERY messy game, not one to try at home, kids!

I wonder if they’ll call a time limit- I don’t think they want to spend an hour on this, because at the rate this is going they will..

Interesting thought. I know they’ve had events lasting twenty minutes before, I wonder how long the tolerance for this is going to be.

I wonder how well playtested all the games are? This is this episode’s name the book from the cover.

I’m wondering if the dye is screwing things up? They might have used plain materials in testing..

Constructing it all on the table would seem like the best strategy to me, moment of truth time now though.

Oh Alexander has won! Amazing. 12:9 to Alexander.

Right, didn’t hear what this was first to, you get a point if you hit your opponent or you catch the ball thrown at you.

Alexander’s really not getting the hang of the ‘don’t cross the centre line’ rule.

Alexander also seems a bit too intent on catching rather than dodging, which has cost him a few points.
