Ten Dutch celebrities go to Hong Kong and who knows where else to perform tasks. Succeeding at these tasks earns money for a pot that one of them will win. But one of the celebrities is playing a different game – they’re being paid to sabotage the tasks without drawing attention to themselves. Watch people’s actions very carefully as winning this game doesn’t come from completing tasks, it comes from most successfully answering the ultimate question: Who Is The Mole?
Thanks to our Dutch friends (led by ThatDarkSpark) we are able to follow and play along on Youtube. You will need to put the English subtitles on when watching the videos.
You can also play along with Dan Peake’s The Suspect List game, details here.
To avoid spoilers, I will link to videos and the beginning of discussion here. I ask people not to spoil anything specific until the English translation has gone up, then it’s fair game.

The Suspects
(With thanks to Squared Eyes, whose brilliant Dutch TV blog can be found here – from left to right)
1. Susan Visser – She is a very well known, experienced actress, acting mostly in comedy roles. Was one of the main characters in Gooise Vrouwen, the Dutch Desperate Housewives.
2. Maurice Lede – He might be the least recognized, as he is the host of ‘Klokhuis’, an educational series for early teenagers, airing in access prime-time.
3. Tygo Gernandt – A very well known, extremely experienced and good actor, doing a lot of ‘bad guy, intense’ roles. He will probably do anything to win.
4. Jennifer Hoffman – She is a real pretty face, has been acting for a long time. Not the eye-catching roles, but always recognizable.
5. Owen Schumacher – One of the main comedians of NL, starring in his own TV show ‘Koefnoen’ (Little Britain like). Together with a partner, they do all kinds of impersonation sketches of famous and non famous, typical characters.
6. Daphne Bunskoek – Has been a host for years, did both public and commercial stuff. Is currently back on air for RTL4 with a new show ‘Volgende Week’.
7. Aaf Brandt Corstius – A columnist and writer, and personally for me together with Maurice the big unknown. She appears regularly in TV talkshow, but what she is like? No clue.
8. Freek Bartels – He is currently one of the main musical stars, since he won the (original BBC) TV show ‘In search of Joseph’ in 2008.
9. Sofie van den Enk – She is a young, energetic upcoming host, doing a range of shows for the public broadcaster KRO.
10. Jan-Willem Roodbeen – Probably a very unknown face to almost everyone, but his voice might be very recognizable, as he is a radio DJ on Radio 2, having an afternoon show and doing voice-overs.
Here is the press conference for the show with english subs (you will likely have to view this on the Youtube page so you can click the subtitles button) thanks to our good friend ThatDarkSpark.

Calling it now – I will be horrendously wrong on the Mole again this year.
I never get it right. Though I’m guessing that using the Black Exemption will remove money from the pot.
Anyone know anything about these celebrities, for the benefit of us international folks?
You can check the channel of ThatDarkSpark for new clips, every week there is a new clip online with the candidates introducing themselves. I have posted here or on my own blog an overview of the contestants and their backgrounds; let me look it up.

Hey everyone! 😀
Great to see a new blog for S14 and to see everyone is looking forward to it as much as I am. 😀
One vid that is missing here and potentially interesting in terms of Art’s intro to the series is the first footage of the series in combination with the trailer:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J2deD9p8coU
From what we can tell from one of the sources (the avro tv guide so quite reliable actually imho), it seems the black exemption is about nullifying/neutralizing the jokers the other contestants have. Not yet sure how this will work (i.e. will it nullify all their jokers or just the ones they played etc). Apparently we’ll be given an introduction to it in episode 1. Looks like an interesting game element/strategic advantage and play imho so I’m looking forward to see how that pans out.. 😀
Also, some of the footage in the trailer suggests there may be a second destination they’re going to. The scene with the horse and carriage suggests this was taken in Vigan in the Philippines – at least there is a striking resemblance. So they may well continue on to the Philippines.. 😀
Here’s the promo for episode 1 of S14. 😉 It seems like there will be a very early on surprise test/execution in the episode though it would not surprise me at all if this involves a twist – can’t wait to see what it is.. 😀
Man, I can’t wait…. 😀 😀
The last of the bunch.. Let the game(s) begin!!! 🙂
Anyone care to make a pre-show preliminary guess to the Mole? 😉
Susan Visser and Tygo Gernandt:
Here’s the 1 minute preview of episode 1 🙂
Interesting to consider – both Jennifer and Tygo appear in the same drama (Doctor Titus) as regulars at the moment!
I know both of them have been asked before but were unable to due to filming schedules – Tygo on several occasions I think. Tygo especially says he’s been a fan of the show since the very start.
I guess that’s why they went ahead with it anyway.
It can be a kind of risk though as I remember some contestants knowing Mole S12 beforehand and noticing discrepancies hence suspecting them more.
Perhaps this means it’s more likely neither of them is the Mole? 😛 We shall see. 🙂
Not sure in what extend it can be useful for you guys, but the AVRO also released – ofcourse – an app, to play along. Every week on Friday (noon) there will be new questions that you can answer in order to predict the winner of the Mole. The following questions return every week:
Who is the Mole? (Wie is de mol?)
Who will win The Mole? (Wie is de winnaar?)
Who will be eliminated next? (Wie is de volgende afvaller?)
Additionally, there are new questions added every week related to the following episode, which will also be worth points. Obviously you need a facebook account, but you can make groups to keep scores with your friends.
The points for guessing the Mole are week 1 10, week 2 20, etc – as long as you stay on the same person each week. If you either switch or your mole is eliminated, you go back to 10 points to be earned for the next week. You could gain points even if you are not on the right mole. Same goes for the winner.
The price is huge though – the best 10 players will go a superfinal at some point, with the winner joining the next production and be on set for the first episode: knowing the contestants and the country as first.
All details available here: http://avro.nl/wieisdemol/over/app.aspx#.UsSEWfah1jQ
Ha ha, they’ve basically nicked the game mechanic I used to use for Fantasy Big Brother/The X Factor. Awesome.
Does this mean WIDM ’15 is confirmed already?
Yes, the Avro has already confirmed officially that there will be a WIDM S15 🙂 🙂
Awesome! We’re probably due another South America/European location then, aren’t we?
2,5m viewers resulting in 31% marketshare. Most watched show of the day, beating the previous opening record of 2,1m for season 12.
Great first episode!
Really really good first episode! Are we having a just-for-fun pool again this year?
As last year’s clear winner, I’m up for it if Dan’s happy to run it again.
And as someone who is prepostorously bad at guessing the Mole (two for two at being useless), I’d like to rectify my reputation!
Oh absolutely, the Suspect List will return! Can you imagine if I tried to run it for the Aussie Mole? *shudders*
I still would have been wrong then…
Just the headache of “ok, same suspect list for three episodes” was enough…
We would have got bored by that point!
That challenge with the lights was surely impossible, but beautiful looking.
I was mightily impressed they managed to even locate three of the four pairs. Having said that, how are you logically supposed to communicate numbers with a laser pointer without it turning into the Australian Smoke Signals game fiasco?
Ah. Australia. Land of blocked videos. Probably has nothing to do with ThatDarkSpark, but still…
No I’m getting it now as well. Wowsers.
Oh that’s interesting – blocked on my iPad, but seemingly still fine if I watch through my computer. Go figure.
Ah. iPad. Land of being blocked in “your country”. Oh well, I’ll find my way around it.
Weirdly it didn’t appear when I tried watching it on the YouTube app on WiiU, but appeared (and worked fine!) when I watched on the PC.
A brilliant first episode – I love how cinematic they make it. Again the only gripe is being a bit slow, but that hasn’t stopped me from enjoying it before.
As others have said – how on earth were they meant to do the light challenge?! Beautiful looking though. I’m super pumped for this (and the next!) series!
In exciting news, I have 100% DEFINITELY SPOTTED A CLUE! However, I don’t know who it’s pointing to. Brilliant. But it’s definitely a clue. Am I going to tell you what it is? NO. Discover it for yourselves – I don’t want to give you any advantage for The Suspect List!
I might have spotted a clue. If the person it points at is the mole, I suspect I’ll score highly this year (touch wood!)
I’ve also spotted a clue. But, assuming we’re all looking at the same clue, it almost feels TOO obvious to be a real clue. It could reveal something interesting, but I think it was so poorly hidden it has to be a red herring set up do trick us “eagle eyed” viewers.
Or do I actually know who the Mole is and I’m just trying to throw you off their scent? SUBTERFUGE. (*jazz hands off stage left)
Roll up, roll up! Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you:
THE SUSPECT LIST 2014!
As a bit of play-along-at-home fun, after each week I will invite you to tell me who you think The Mole is. You do this by placing the remaining candidates in order from MOST likely to LEAST likely. We will still do this in weeks when no candidate is eliminated.
SCORING: If you put the Mole as the least likely candidate, you’ll score 0 points. Put them as second to least likely, you’ll get 1 point. Third to least likely, you’ll score 2 points… and so on. However, putting The Mole as MOST likely will score you 10 POINTS, regardless of the number of candidates remaining.
All your lists will remain private until The Mole has been revealed – so you won’t be able to ‘game’ based on knowing other people’s lists. I won’t publish ANY stats until the series has ended.
Here is the form for WEEK 1. Best of luck!

The form doesn’t seem to ask for a name. Is this a problem?
Yes! Oops! I’ve updated it now, if you had already filled it out (two of you had) then can you please fill it in again, and add your name too.
Sorry about that!
Well I’m having a crack at suspect list despite never having identified a mole correctly*. I’ve even got it wrong when re-watching some series. That said it was an interesting first episode. I like the strategic twist that the opening quiz added too.
*I also run at no big brother winners chosen on day one, no survivor winners chosen by the final and just one apprentice winner. I basically have the foresight of a prune.
But Prune juice is good for you! Wait, that’s no help.
Thanks DarkSpark for the episode, and Dan for the Suspect List. I suspect (…Well, this is being run by Dan, so…) I’ll do as abysmally as I usually do.
Did not see how the Black Exemption actually works coming.
Promo Episode 2:

One minute preview Episode 2:
Here’s episode 2 of the WIDM S14 in Hong Kong (…and the Philippines.. shhh :D)
Hope you guys enjoy it! 🙂
Interesting twist on a task that’s been done before in that first challenge…and how they did the test was a good idea too.
And if I’m getting this correctly, any money sent in the envelopes will be added to the pot in episode nine regardless of who they’re addressed to- but if they’re addressed to someone who’s still in the game at that point, there’s a bonus attached based on when it was sent and how much money was in the envelope. Is that right?
Yup that’s how they explained it. 🙂
This is WIDM though, so I wouldn’t be at all surprised if there’s a twist or something involved in the end. 😛
I get the feeling that anything not invested will be at risk in some upcoming challenge(s).
Super interesting episode I thought – two new Mole concepts in the envelopes and the black exemption, and two terrific challenges in the TV station and market (even if really they both boiled down to not getting lost in labyrinthine places). Even the first task felt quite clever twisting expectations. Good stuff. Shame about the loser though.
Great episode, loved it. Didn’t really drag too, although I was screaming at them a bit during the TV-station challenge.
The next Suspect List will go live tomorrow afternoon.
Really good episode again!
Loved the TV station challenge and the market twist on the test, but quite disappointed about the execution – had him pegged as a potential finalist.
From what I’ve seen in the first two episodes and the preview of the third, this seems to be the series where the tests/executions are screwed around with in various ways. I suspect in episode five, they’ll be taking the test WHILE doing the traditional laser tag challenge.
Sorry about the delay, The Suspect List – Week 2 is now available!

Best of luck. I’ll try and not forget to do Week 3. Ahem.
It won’t be on during the Olympics btw – all shows are cancelled before 10pm for two or three weeks on NED1.
I wonder if they’ve deliberately left in a bit of a cliffhanger so people don’t forget to tune in again three weeks later.
Wouldn’t worry about that for one bit – the show is huge, the break is one the same channel… I have no clue, but I guess ice-skating is in the evening CET, so it would have probably had a bigger impact on the show when it was on the other channel.
It will however compete later on with Ajax matches in Europe on Thursdays late February, but still… The Mole is having a decent season anyhow.
They did do a type of cliffhanger thing in S10 during the Winter Olympics with a non-elimination. But it looks like we may be having the NEL next episode this series.
It’ll still suck that there’s a hiatus though. 🙁
Here’s the promo for episode 3 🙂
Brand new episode 3 of the Mole in Hong Kong is online now! 🙂
So.. who’s the Mole?? 😉
Enjoy! 🙂
Fast work! thanks TDS.
This feels like a bit of a meta-series so far, few of the challenges have felt very original or clever (although the dragonboat challenge was a lot of fun), but I’m loving the ideas being brought to the format itself.
I keep getting Tygo and Jan Willem confused.
Yes. So do I. And I agree about the challenges being mostly standard Mole fare so far – Nothing wrong with them, but… We’ve seen them all before, pretty much, but the format changes have been great (Although… Three executions, three twists on the execution is getting a bit much…)
I agree enough with the execution twists 😉
Looks like we’ll be getting a normal one next time, and three challenges, like ‘normal’ 😀
So, who are your suspects so far? 🙂
All of the men so far. Tygo’s currently my #1 suspect, but I’m starting to think he’s too obvious in the edit for it to really be him.
I think a lot points to Tygo, was that him at the back of the dragon boat? I thought someone at the back wasn’t putting all that much effort in. Then again a few of the women have aroused my suspicions. Except for Aaf.
I am not at all sure, but I was edging towards Freek and Sophie (before they mailed the cash).
I’m pretty confident that it isn’t Aaf.
The Suspect List for Week 3 is now available! Good luck, and it’s not too late to join in even if you haven’t played Weeks 1 or 2. It’s all still up for grabs!

Here are the one minute preview and the promo for episode 4! 😀
Can’t wait.. ! 😀
Promo Episode 4:
Hi guys 😀
Bringing good news… Here’s brand new episode 4 of ‘Wie is de Mol? in Hong Kong. 🙂
Enjoy, and please share your thoughts and suspicions! 😉
Cheers for this.
The one person I’m absolutely certain isn’t the Mole is no longer a contestant which… Annoying. Still think my main suspect is too obviously The Mole to actually be The Mole, this isn’t the Australian version after all, but I’m not prepared to rule him out for that reason, and I still suspect all three men more than any of the women.
Loved this version of the negotiation challenge, incidentally.
Curiouser and curiouser, In episode 3 I though I saw a bit of clever sabotage, possibly some here too. For the first time I think my number one suspect might change.
Thanks for uploading and subbing TDS,
Can’t say I’m surprised at the execution. The episode title however was a shock. Another top notch episode though.
Glad you enjoyed it! 😀
Who are your suspects at the moment? 🙂
I’m pretty sure there were some proper clues this episode as to who is the mole – moreso than the rest of the episodes! I think I’ve solved the meaning of the episode title as well.
I’m finding this series a bit frustrating – I love the envelopes, the black exemptions and the strategies and bluffs inherent with them, but the challenges aren’t quite doing it for me – some of them feel rather arbitrary. The word memory one was a good Moley challenge, the negotiation table was a great idea but the method for determining if they won the money or not didn’t make a great deal of sense (the money should have swapped with the money because… why?). And how did one team land a black exemption in the abseiling challenge, which would otherwise have been a pretty good task? I think the explanations need to be a little tighter.
I’m looking forward to laser guns in speedboats next week though.
My main thing is why did Sofie tell Tygo to hide that last tube- and are we sure that tube held the black exemption in the first place? (I wouldn’t be shocked if that tube held a big negative bill so if they had found it on him, it would have counted against the pot). And if it did have the exemption, how did Sofie know? (I’m guessing the routes of each were determined by chance, and she picked the line that had it and that info was on the card she had)
I’m thinking the reasoning of the negotiation game is that the two halves of the bill had to connect through a trade…
I think it was probably predetermined, that who lost their exemption in the negotiation game – they would get the black exemption as a compensation for this in the next challenge.
That seems the most logical to me anyway, as a ‘fairness’ trade-off in a sense.
I think the idea with the swapping halves was what David says.
You can see the bills had been torn, so they should have been a bit more alert imho. This was one of the cases that I think they could have actually figured this out if they had cared about the money.. But challenges like this are never about the money and even though each time it’s clear people should cooperate to get the best result for everyone, it never works out that way.. 😉
At least they had a decent shot at earning some money in the other two challenges. I’m looking forward to next week, when they’re off to the Philippines! 😀
Indeed – The solution given (Essentially two halves make a whole) makes sense in the context of the game, and it was phrased, and presented, such that it was work-outable… Or would have been had Tygo not rushed into trades early.
Well why not have the money sit next to each other, so you can put the two together?
I initially thought Sofie was holding that tube so that she could find out the true answer to the question. Some of the questions were potentially excellent mole-hints.
It absolutely didn’t make sense to me that there was a black exemption just on that path… I don’t think this has been explained well enough, agreed.
I’d wonder if the Black Exemption was a last-minute addition – it kind of felt like they were building it up to be this big important thing in the first episode, only for their plan to sink like a lead balloon in Episode 2.
Well, by the midpoint of this episode I had decided to swap #1 and #2 on my suspect list, something I had considered doing on my week 3 ballot but decided against. Then my previous #1, whom I’ve listed as my most likely Mole since episode 1, got a red screen. So much for early points.
That’s the way of it!!
Week 4 of The Suspect List is now available! Good luck, swap your suspects around, keep them the same, reverse the order, enter randomly… do whatever you need to do!
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1uojuGSAiVpnF3D6mf2RRdirM4aRaP4q-OXqiFLLDBuM/viewform
Has anyone ever won though he missed the first three weeks? I’ll try it anyway, but I also have no idea who might be the mole, just some gutfeeling about certain people…
If everyone’s on the same form as I was last year, you have more than a chance!
The set up is slightly different this year – your top Mole pick is always worth 10 points, everyone else worth slightly less points week on week (whereas last year the value of your top pick decreased week on week as well). I won last year despite never actually having Kees as my top selection (although he was always up there) so I suggested putting more emphasis on it. And really that’s how it should be, because you don’t usually win The Mole in real life either if you get it wrong at the end.
Also, there’s no longer the bonus points for picking the contestant executed each episode.
Hi all 😀
Here’s the promo for episode 5 – we’re heading for the Philippines now! 😀
And here’s the 1 minute preview of episode 5. 🙂
By there way, where is the 2013 suspect list result? I’d like to review it?
I’ve seen the spreadsheet so it’s up somewhere, although I can’t remember where.
The important thing is I won.
Indeed. I also can’t trace the file.
Hi y’all..
What better way to be spending a grey, wintery Saturday evening/night or Sunday morning than with an all fresh brand new episode of the Mole in Hong Kong.. and now, the Philippines? 😀
Indeed.. So enjoy! 😀
Well I thought I saw a clue, but not in the test, I couldn’t work out to whom it referred, but it was clearly a manipulated image to give some meaning or another.
Everyone seemed to be behaving in a molish manner too this week. I was considering moving the eliminated contestant up my suspect list – until they got red screened.
The three challenges were really good to watch as well, with many opportunities for sabotage.
I think I’m settled on a top three for my suspect list now, I’ve seen them all do quite questionable things, and I don’t think I’m going to change my number one suspect either – although in retrospect I may regret it.
Can’t offer enough thanks to TDS for subbing and uploading!
I glad that they play 2 €2,500 game. I also found that it is annoying that all my 4 top suspects still in the game. (At least if one of my suspect is the mole, I secured 10 points.)
Does anybody notice hidden clue on the test? Will not spoil it.
So does anyone want to share their suspicions here? 😉
I always enjoy reading your thoughts. 🙂
My 4 top suspects:
>Tygo: He seems a lot of things that looks like a “player trying to act like a mole”, however, a statement made by Tygo in previous test rise my suspicion again.
>Freek: The clues from the tube challenge points to Freek. However, his reaction to black exemption is contradictive.
>Susan: Since day 1, some clue matches here.
>Aaf(!): I don’t know. She just like a mole to me.
To me Susan, Freek and Aaf seem like they could be the mole. Well naming 3 out of 6 is a bit vague I guess. The thing is Tygo seemed not at all to be the Mole to me, but now there was a hint to me which made me think it could be him (I might start to be a bit paranoid though). However I don’t think at all that it could be Sofie…
I was pretty sure I got the identity of the Mole down pat during this episode, with clues pointing towards her…
…So, naturally, she went home at the end of the episode.
Meaning I’m stuck with Tygo, who while is my head’s Mole, my gut’s screaming “can’t possibly be the Mole, the edit makes him too suspicious.” Meanwhile JW and Freek are acting a bit Molish, Tygo is who I’m reluctantly having to continue going with – The edit might be a double bluff.
(I think if I were playing for real, I’d be splitting my votes between the three guys still)
I’m stuck on Jan-Willem. At the end of the first episode, they cut to a shot of him near the end, and I said “Who is that?”
My main suspect is always the one that is flying under the radar. =)
Tygo was my #1 candidate last week, and I think I’m still going to put him as #1 on my ballot this week even though he seems a bit too obvious in this week’s episode, and I’m starting to develop some doubts that he’s actually a player trying to pretend to be the Mole so as to distract everyone else. (In my previous comment, Tygo is the #2-turned-#1 I mentioned.)
I also think Aaf is the least likely Mole. As others have already said, she’s way too determined to win the challenges, and I’ve spotted several prime opportunities for her to sabotage that she didn’t take.
Lots of fun challenges this episode. About time!
Susan has been up there for me since the beginning, but actually all of the women (except Aaf) have exhibited mole-y behavior one way or another so it could be any of them. I think Tygo is too obvious. This has been the first week that Freek has shown up on my Moley radar. I’m ruling out J-W and Aaf completely, J-W doesn’t seem very cutthroat and Aaf hasn’t really done anything.
I’m convinced it’s not a guy – Tygo would be too obvious, J-W is getting a winner’s edit and Freek is probably going to be the loser – both Aaf and Susan have mole-y vibes for me.
I am tending towards Tygo, Susan and Freek at the moment.
I know that Tygo is playing up an act for the cameras, but when he is talking candidly his motivations still seem to match a mole much better than a contestant.
I would rule out Aaf for being too keen on winning the games, and I’d rule out Sofie for being too keen on winning the series.
If I were producing, I would have picked Jan-Willem to be Mole. That makes me unable to rule him out.
Everyone is ruling out my number one suspect; Aaf, who I think has said and done some very odd things. Tygo and Sofie are also on my mole-dar. I’ll struggle to put someone at the bottom and out of suspicion now though.
Glad someone else is suspecting Aaf – she and Susan have been my two suspicions since the first episode!
Week 5 – Suspect List is now up!! Best of luck – I’ve got tunnel vision on one particular person at the moment… but then I am a menace with a pair of binoculars.
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1h0jdgS-NJD_pYPgX_jQNoNXm46tGUK9AdGzDFDPgb5s/viewform
I think I probably mentioned it before but just to be clear:
Tonight’s episode (i.e. episode 6) will be the last one before a three week hiatus for the Winter Olympics.
Episode 7 will air on Thursday February 27th.
Accidentally spoiled myself to the result. Suffice to say… huh. Not exactly what I’d expected.
Hi all 😀
What’s a Saturday night without the Mole? 😉
So here we are, brand new episode 6. 😀
Hope you share your thoughts! Have fun! 😀
Oh my goodness what an episode! I’m going to have to turn my suspect list upside down because of this one. Not only the ending, but also the past and future game, and all the masses of sabotage going on in the boat game. Lots to digest.
Also a great way to lead into the Olympic break, and possibly better than the last looking into the future game.
Thanks again TDS for making my Saturday night.
Well, I’ve lost again!
This is actually turning out to be a really fun series with lots of fun ideas and contestants after some initial disappointment. Aaf was never really on my radar to be honest. I think there’s a really good shout that Sofie’s either the winner or the mole and I’m not entirely certain which.
Aaf was the only one with a slightly different intro video in the first episode – everyone else was shown with a clip with audio. I still have one mole left though!
