Schlag den Raab 17th March 2012

By | March 17, 2012

7:15pm UK (8:15 CET),
Pro Sieben or (fingers crossed) internet streaming

It’s the first Schlag den Raab of the 2012! After winning the previous battle in December 66-0, Stefan Raab has a million Euro to defend. Hopefully tonight’s batch of contestants will put up a bit more of a fight.

I’m not going to be here for the start, but the regular punters normally offer up a commentary if you want to join the live discussion.

Right, I’ve yet to find a decent livestream online for this, although the FilmOn app is working for me right now, we’ll see how long it lasts.

Can’t lie though, I’d prefer to be watching it on a big screen and writing this on my iPad from my bed.

The five contestants have been introduced, four male, one female.

Nice one. Note to readers that I couldn’t get it loading off the bat in IE, Safari seems to work fine.

Works on Firefox for me, and also the PS3 browser although it doesn’t seem to like that browser as much.

You might have to reload it a few times, the first time I tried it just didn’t work, seems to be okay at the moment though. Typically, as I’ve typed that it’s started to jump about.

So, tonight’s 5 Kandidaten are Alexander, Marco, Susi, Fabian and Rainer.

The results are in. It’s not Susi, it’s not Rainer, it’s not Fabian and it’s not Marco.

      It’s Stefan vs Alexander.

This should be a laugh. An early fall by Alexander and Stefan cruises to an easy first victory.

A tense nailbiter gives Alexander the win.

    Alexander 2 – 1 Stefan

Raab gets a question on Russia sharing a border with North Korea wrong, it’s 2:1 to Alexander.

Game 3 is Eiskart, karting on an ice rink.

Let’s see what tonight’s funny competition question is.

What can the kandidat win on Schlag den Raab?

    A million Euro…or a lifejacket with 8 reflectors? 😀

Looks like there’s going to be an event in the pool later on.

I also suspected that looked like ‘filler until they actually arrive’.

It’s Elton! Not wearing a red suit!

And they’ve driven across Cologne (is it?) to get to the location – looks like ice karting and then a swimming challenge! EPIC.

They’re getting changed in the women’s changing room. And there’s the second edition of the box game, and all the video games.

And did they just show that Stefan and Alexander got changed in the WOMEN’S shower room? 😀

Another comedy moment, the race marshal dropping his yellow flag 😀

No running to the karts, alas. Another break though. I’ve seen several of the comic styled Schlag den Raab ads over the last few days, they look really good.

Have to say – ProSeiben really do push the boundaries of what can be achieved in live television, don’t they?

I wonder how many times they rehearsed this week, that journey from Brainpool studios to the swimming pool location, so they could backtime the commercial break to the degree, that they were only less that a minute away when we came back from the break.

Anyway, as a some time karter myself – they sometimes are difficult to control on a normal track – let alone ice.
    Should be fun.

We are here, by the way..

And Raab takes advantage of just running against the boundary

Looks like Stefan has worked out he can just skim around the outside edge to prevent skidding.

Raabs tactic go full pelt using the outside rails as a guide. The drunk Mario Kart strategy, effectively.

    Races are three laps each.

Stefan really should be excluded from the 1st heat. Quite obviously using the track barriers as a steering guide.

They’re both doing it now, so I guess it’s an allowed strategy.

Well this event could have been a lot more fun, it’s a pity no-one considered the ‘follow the barrier’ tactic when they decided to do the game.

My thoughts exactly, it’s not as fun now they’re doing that. If they had some areas where the track narrows, that could have helped.

I agree with the disappointment. That first round, at least the brief window before the tactic was discovered, was excellent.

That was a bit more like it. It does seem as though it’s first to spin out loses unfortunately.

I would love to know how expensive this show is. All the effort that must have gone in to that one game, all the rigging, lights, etc.
