Broadcast reporting ITV Be is going to be shut down with its hit shows moving to ITV2, and the channel is going to become ITV Quiz, playing quiz and game shows “akin to a FAST channel”.
Quite interesting, it will presumably cost pennies to run if its not going to have any of its own commissions. Does anyone watch much of the FAST channels on ITVX? Is this just going to have The Chase, Tipping Point and Celebrity Catchphrase on a loop or will it be more interesting than that? Is that American BBC quiz FAST channel still going and has it added anything interesting in the last year?
Edit: Sounds like U&Dave’s Silence is Golden starts on May 5th, where an audience must keep silent as comics try and make them laugh to win a dwindling share of £250,000. This will need to hit the ground running early, Last One Laughing UK has been a big hit and the timing makes the comparisons inevitable, unfairly or not (this was revealed and recorded last year).
Yes I know it’s not been called Challenge TV for about twenty years, but that’s what everyone calls it so SUCK IT UP.
Genuinely quite excited for this, really hope they make use of their archive so we can see shows ‘Challenge TV’ haven’t bothered to get in years! Although, I wouldn’t be surprised if it isn’t used.
Jeopardy S3 to be the first new quiz airing on this channel
I doubt it!
I wonder if Challenge got wind of this as we have seen an attempt to bring in some other shows to the mix of late, after years of neglect. Through the Keyhole, Friends Like These, Bargain Hunt, The Generation Game, Cash in the Attic and The Bidding Room have all been shown recently.
I hope ITV quiz is not what I expect The Chase and Tipping Point 90% of the day
Depends on how early they got wind of any plans considering the majority of shows mentioned were put on in 2023/4. More likely it’s because Sky gave Challenge a bigger budget and more attention to that and Pick (Now Sky Mix) than in previous years.
Looking forward to the launch of ITV Quiz and what content will AIR.
Makes sense. Quizzes and game shows still do well on linear, they repeat well and it’s super cheap.
Hoping it’s slightly more inspiring than endless 4 hour blocks of The Chase. Not expecting anything new (or even archive really) but anything that encourages them to keep producing this stuff isn’t a bad thing and it could help give some of the daytime shows a bit more visibility. I know it’s old fashioned thinking but there is still an audience who would never find, say, Riddiculous at 3pm but would find a 11pm repeat on a digital channel.
After days of half-hearted research, I think the Freevee channel is down to alternating six or seven-hour blocks of The Boss and The Edge. Sad!
There’s enough current shows to fill up ITV Quiz but it would be good if it wasn’t all current. I see from their YouTube account that In With A Shout is there so maybe this will be shown along with “recent” axed shows like Moneyball, Sitting On A Fortune, Epic Gameshow, etc. If ITV does go back further then it would be good to see stuff like 1000 Heartbeats and Duel again.
I honestly wouldn’t get your hopes up about any classics on this. It’s going to inevitably be wall to wall Chase and whatever quizzes currently get repeats on ITV2.
It’ll be the battle of who can show more episodes of The Chase per day! Prove me wrong, ITV Quiz!
Hopefully it shows original content like Challenge ACTUALLY did.
Shows that are exclusive to the Channel.
In fact, since most of Challenge’s content is originally from ITV, I always felt that ITV should buy Challenge away from Sky and put their shows past and present on there.
The odds of ITV Quiz having original shows is very, very small – it’s basically running a repeats channel on Freeview for pennies.
